I haven't personally done this but i think you use a BMX stem on the stock forks. Handlebars can be mounted to the BMX stem. I'm doing the same thing, only on a Jog.

I used a 25mm bmx stem. I used a stem extension and cross drilled 2 small bolts through the neck for a more secure mount. Dont have to cut any plastic but had to make custom cables and I eliminated a bunch of the electrical.

I think bacaracer has the bmx stem on his race bike. I would think it would be safe. Maybe he will chime in.

The stem stays the same.

Get the handle bar adapter.

I cut the bottom clamp section off my stock bars and clamped a bmx stem clamp and mini moto bars. The stem clamp I used is a 1 1/8 stem for 7/8 bars. Or you can buy the doppler stem clamps that come in different heights depending on what height bars you use snd how high you want the bars to sit.

That was done on my 87 elite race bike and street bike. Just giving info what I did to make it work with a bmx stem clamp since the stem doesn't stick out far enough out of the plastics to just use the clamp it self. If you don't want to cut your stock bars then op for the Doppler style stem clamp.

I used a metro front end on my 87 elite. Plenty of room for my bmx stem
