A new tool that may change my scooter fabbing for ever!

Post by deuce217 »

Yesterday I turned a new page in my middle-aged life by purchasing a CNC Milling Machine. It is a smaller unit you can check it out here http://conversioncnckit.com/product.php?id_product=43 hopefully I can figure out how to run the software!

Thanks guys, I am taking my time now using "Auto CAD Inventor Fusion". It is pretty neat seeing things some to life in 3D.

Nice! - a company I worked for had a couple big CNC mills. They made prototype plastics for new products. They turned flat drawings into fantastic prototypes in foam and hard plastic to show internally and for customer reasearch. The prototyppe shop is a favorite stop for visitors and team members.

Good luck with your endeavors

I hope you didnt get the red mill in the picture... I had the manual version for awhile... d*** thing had plastic gears!! Blew out a few sets before I sold it and bought something nicer.
Im hoping they upgraded it before making them CNC :nervous:

Yeah they come with plastic gears on the drive train for the spindle as a sacrificial part incase a guy rams the end mill into something crazy i.e. the table or the vise. I know at first we would assume they use the plastic to save money but something must be designed to prevent further damage. Even the expensive autmatic doors I sell and install in hospitals have 1 nylon gear that is attached to the main motor which is designed to fail if something hits the door with too much force so nothing else is damaged. Now with all that is said.... These budget "red" mills are not made like a Bridgeport by any stretch of the imagination. Also the plastics gears were spapped out with aluminum pulley drive with the conversion, thank God. After they are converted they are pretty solid machines because even the factory lead screws are changed out with precision ballscrews that have little to no backlash. Now the only thing left to make them bullet proof is a larger American Made electric motor maybe a 3 phase with variable phase controller :thumbwink: .

Mouse,

What company did you work at? Protype dep. would be a cool place to be. Thats what my shop is all about, too bad I dont have enough knowledge and skill to make anything cool enough to let me do it full time.
