homemade crank puller

Post by ped »

Hi forum. here's a homemade crank puller I made from a 4 inch C clamp from Harbor Freight, 1 1/4 black pipe from Home Depot, a couple washers, a couple nuts Home Depot. Total cost about 20 bucks. You will need a welder, Harbor Freight 99 bucks. or have someone weld it up for you. :thumbwink:

not a welder. is long as you melt the metal you should be good.
this is not for something very important like a frame. :nerd:

yes it is. It's best to heat up the bearings with a heat gun little bit.

Greetings:

Very clever and useful work. Just to clarify; you heat the cases to enlarge the bearing sockets, and chill the bearings for easier insertion, right?

I freeze the crank first then slip the bearings on then freeze that. I put Hondabond on the cases then heat them with heat gun or torch. Then I hope they go together easily but when they don't I'll use this to complete the install.

Hi Whitey. that threaded rod is perfect. :thumbwink:
Only needed to weld the two nuts together. any muffler shop can do that for you.
I went with the clamp because it had bigger threads. And looks a little stronger. But there's nothing wrong with the threaded rod. It was most likely less money and less work.
nice work :thumbwink:
