CH80 TIRES and HEADLIGHT

Post by leakinglewis »

New Member here but have had a CH80 '87 for about a year and a half. I have a couple of questions:
1) Any tire recommendations? Ron Ayers is selling IRC 80/90 10" scooter tires for $15.22. Any negative experiences? Seems like a cheap way to get some new rubber on the road.
2). Is there an FAQ or does anyone have any experience upgrading the headlight on an Elite 80? I don't ride far at night but even going to the grocery store is an adventure.

Any thoughts or help is appreciated.

Greetings:

Never have run a CH80, but 80/90 tires sound really small. I'm pretty sure that size fits the much-smaller NQ50 Spree, in fact. 90/90 is closer to 3.50, which may be your stock size. Otherwise, IRC is one of Honda's stock brands and should be fine.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

Thanks, I will take your advice and go with a larger tire.

Much more money, but I'm VERY pleased with my new Michelin S1's on my 2001 CH80. Once I finally got the front one swapped the headshake went away and the handling has improved 110%.
Not sure if it's any brighter, but I have headlight from a later Elite with replaceable bulbs and a wiring harness for it. Will swap it when my weak factory headlight fails.

Welcome to the forum!
1) The only tire I run on my ch80's and can definitely recommend is the continental zippy 1 3.5x10". 39.99 at motorcyclesuperstore.com. Fantastic traction and feel. Semi soft but doesn't wear too fast. I usually get about 2k miles out if a rear, and 6-7k out of a front. The S1 would be my next choice.

2) like east coast mentioned, it's possible to swap a headlight/bracket/wire harness from the 05+ ch80's, which have a better design for projecting the light, and being able to replace just the bulb( which is a 35w/35w I believe) is nice too. It made a huge difference in my 93 and I highly recommend this mod.

Here is a pic of my 93 with the headlight upgrade, and an 05 behind it.
