elite to dio conversion, plastics

Post by benji »

I'm sure this is common knowledge, but I've just picked up an 88 sa50 and wanna make it a dio. Do the af18 dio body panels work for this scooter? Do I need to swap the seat bucket?

The elite s and sr panels would fit but the dio stuff wont, plus the dio has the floor gas tank. Just put a af16 or 18 dio motor on it and itll rip the same.

I don't wanna put a dio motor on it, I've already got alot of afo5 stuff I can use. But the early dio body stuff won't fit? It looks so close...

You won't know unless you really get your hands dirty and do it and stop asking questions nobody has the answers to. My rear disc conversation..... Many said it can't be done! Well I made a working rear disc for the Af16e block. I got my hands dirty and went to town. There is no answer for many of the things we do to these scooters but there will always be a different bike. Make yours a different bike by investing money and time into your build. No one has done this but if you conquer it you will be the first.... Just my two cents and have a good day.

Have you posted that rear disc conversion? That'd be cool to see...

Ya I'm about to order some plastics just wanted to get an answer if possible. I guess I can always sell dio stuff if it don't work.

Why? I have like 4, there cheap and they all work. I'd have to spend like $300 on an af16 or af18, and I'd get like maybe 2-3 more hp? I've got a derbi gp1 if I wanna do 70. I also have 3 minarelli clone motors from vinos if I wanna do a swap to something "better".

I literally just picked up a bike w a running sa50 afo5 motor. Why junk it?

Not really tryin to buy all the dio panels just to find out it won't work. This my first sa50 so maybe I'll just keep stock panels on it and wait for a dio to come my way... I've got enough projects anyway haha.

Look up AF24 Tact and af25 Dio. More than likely won't bolt straight up. The Dio fairings may be too narrow to cover the rear mounted fuel cell. With modifications there may be potential for the swap.

I agree, Af05e (variated) is a great engine for around town jamming with stock bore. Throw some SE50 13t gears and a milled head and it really opens up.

Ya, from pics it looks like the rear body peices would be the challenge, and I'm not down w putting in a new tank just for the plastics. I'll be buying new se50 stock body panels and just waiting for a deal on a dio someday. I'm looking for some se50 gears if anybody knows of any for sale.
