Please tell me that I don't have one of you guys to thank for this...
Previous owner jb welded the petcock sans any mechanical attachment to the spout on the tank.
I've found a n.o.s. petcock local for $15 so no problem there,
I'm just wondering if (I highly doubt it) someone here may have advised him on this little piece of McGuyver.
He also drilled 3 5/8 inch holes in the airbox lid,
And then just draped a wash rag over the airbox for a filter,
Then since it was running extremely lean he drilled out the jet, or removed it altogether...
Which I was trying to find out when the jbweld let go and started draining the tank all over my kitchen.
I jammed the colored pencil in there to stop the blood loss until I can remove the tank.
Now, on to cleanup!

I highly doubt anyone here recommended the JB weld, drilling the pilot OR the rag filter. That sort of shade-tree nonsense would get blasted by endless ridicule on this forum.

Myself, Ive seen some pretty funny things when digging into newly acquired scoots. I once opened a Spree airbox to find the previous owner had installed a yellow kitchen sponge as a filter. Nothing surprises me with these things...not even SpongeBob FilterPants.

EDIT: Drilling jets CAN be done successfully by someone who knows what theyre doing. This guy obviously did not.

Okay got the carb apart, The main has NOT been drilled (yay!)
The jb, or lead substitute, something grey and clay/plastic looking got into the tank, AND blocked up the sending unit.
Tore it apart, and cleaned the crap out of it (literally), It actually works now (Yay again!) and still need that petcock...
Then I'm looking at an 85 aero (no kicker is 85 right?) for the variated AF05E,
Going to wear out the search function in the next few weeks.
And now I have the carb soaking (wish me luck.)

Ive never had an Aero but have had plenty of variated AF05's from 87 Elites. Reading the guide above, seems like the 85's are a year to steer clear of because of the unique intake bolt pattern. Not to mention the lack of a kickstart and non-throttle controlled oil pump design. However, if you plan to run it stock Im sure its great. If you want to more performance than stock it sounds difficult to achieve. Theres always trans tuning that can be done to eek out a few MPH's but gains are minimal.

Okay, so I'm NOT going with the 85 aero, or a 93 elite that are local, but (imo) are too expensive $250-300
And I'd just be buying for the engine, a complete engine and harness couldn't be too much more than that.
I'm VERY interested in the "kit+stock carb+ stock pipe = 60mph" setup.

The main jet was removed and was sitting in the bowl of the carb...plugged completely.
Is it safe to run through the passages with nylon?
Like a piece of fishing line.
I figure there can't be any way that the metal (brass, or copper) the jet is made of could be softer than monofilament line.
Again advice is greatly appreciated.

Anyone have a line on where one could get just the bolt for the petcock?
Ordered one from Ebay, and the tank side of the nut is 14mm.
I need 16mmx1.5, So...Think I could have it drilled and tapped for the larger size?
Or probably a new bolt would be better, because
I do not look forward to paying more for shipping to send it back than the part cost me WITH shipping.

If you mean "bowl", sorry...NO replacement parts available for vacuum petcocks.
It replace or nothing unless you can fabricate an inline "shut-off valve" as found on most riding lawnmowers. It works. The trick is access to the valve once installed.

No the nut (i guess) that attaches the petcock to the tank.
What should have been on my spree instead of the jbweld I guess would be one way to put it.
So looks like I'm out another $10, but at least I'll be able to use it.
I wish I knew why there were two different size attachment nuts for these.

Those cheap Ebay petcocks never fit. Threads are always too coarse. If you cant find a good used OEM one, install a manual valve.

My eBay petcock fit. But it is hit or miss on ebay. I think racing planet has Manual petcocks and vacuum petcocks for sale.

I currently run a motorcycle-style on-off-reserve petcock, works great.

Do you know which petcock from there would fit?
I've heard the old cb motorcycle petcock may fit.
