Just sealed the deal an hour ago on an Iowa Spree
Made sure the title was in front of me and clear this time.
This one is a red 87' Iowa Edition. Looks like this one but has the "IOWA" additions
So I'm liking this already, in that the 87' has different gauges and turn signals which allows me to go with a different look on my Iowa State Cyclones theme.
Gonna look sweet once I do it up in Iowa Crimson and Gold, then slap on the graphics.
But anyways, that lets me use that other Iowa Spree in the garage as a parts bike. Mainly for the 86'.
Wanna focus on my variated AF05E first, cuz it looks like that's what's going in it. Gonna be a long process since I have to adjust inventory. Might be willing to now sell my extra Spree glove box with bolts included at a reasonable price since the 87 has one built in already.. but we'll see..
So yeah, picture a super rare 87' Iowa Edition Spree, with other rare accesories, with super rare (and dyno tuned) engine upgrades... SOO MUCH FUN!!!

The EASY way out of all of this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/382082584527
Now whomever built THAT was paying attention!! What's that carb, Mikuni?
Appears to be some very nice work and forward thinking going on with it.
See that Kitaco intake?
Would only recommend this to serious Spree BBK enthusiasts. That last one pooped me out. I'm going engine swap this time.

Bikes like these would be the easy way out of it....but if youre just after a motor they can be had cheaper.

Re: Just sealed the deal an hour ago on an Iowa Spree
Already have my engine bottom end, and brand new motor mount for the swap. Have not put a dime into parts yet. This scooter is gonna be Dad's personal fun ride this time. I plan to get the best life I can out of the variated AF05E while still retaining all the cosmetics of the bike. I need no more performance then that. Some build to go fast, I'd rather build to last. Takes lots of research. But saves money.

Re: Just sealed the deal an hour ago on an Iowa Spree
Got some pics of my new purchase. These are the "BEFORE" pictures of what it looks like before it gets dismantled into hundreds of pieces and converted into my ISU Cyclones Spree. As you can see, I got alot of work to do restoring a few plastic pieces that have cracks and dings in them.

When looking for blinker lenses, they are the same as the 87' Elite SE50. Same goes with the FRONT blinker housings too...not rear tho.

Nice score eclark! That spree looks pretty decent, it's great to see one not faded like so many out there and actually see 87 spree decals all intact without any peeling or pieces chipped. Good luck on your new project!

Re: Just sealed the deal an hour ago on an Iowa Spree
So talked it over with my wife and my son. I have decided what I am going to do with this Spree engine wise, is keep it stock. I am however taking off the Iowa Edition restrictions by doing the following:
Sonic cleaning of carb
Replace stock main jet for a #68 main
Replace stock reeds for SB50 reeds
Remove muffler, check for and hone out washer restriction
Remove whatever oil is in the tank and replace with Pro Honda GN2 Injector oil
Clean and replace filters
2.75x10 Kenda tires
Future work will be to re-surface the clutch, though it's in pretty good shape, replace stock belt for a newer one.
Here are a couple of sneak preview items for the bike (mock up only).
But anyways, looks like I now have a complete bottom end variated AF05E with a brand new DJ-1 mount to go with it that I might just be putting up for sale to you guys who might be interested in a motor swap.

Where will your ported bbk go? I thought this would be the spot!

Re: Just sealed the deal an hour ago on an Iowa Spree
Oh I'm still gonna use the ported BBK in the Hawkeye Spree. I'll save the one in there now as a backup. Optionally, I can always pull the engine out of the 3rd Spree and send it to 1man8scoots to port the block so that I have ported block, reeds, intake, & BBK, which will allow me to bump up the carb to a 19mm. So if I ever wanted to BBK the Cyclone one, I will still have that option as I do already have extra SB50 intake/reeds to make it run well, and it won't cost me any extra to put together.
Had a couple of reasons to keep it stock. 1. It's being handed down to my son eventually, like the Hawkeye's one already is. Keeping it stock means no premixing needs to be done, which will be easier for him. 2. It's an 87' Iowa, which makes it very rare. The whole point in me swapping the kid who owned it, was to restore it and prevent him from beating the heII out of it and ruining it. So I think keeping it in it's original condition (except paint & tuning), makes the most sense.
