I have an 86 Spree and it won't start. I took off the exhaust pipe and gasoline came out of the exhaust pipe, does anyone know what this means? I have replaced the CDI, coil so far.

That's a possible indication someone has poured gasoline into the spark plug hole excessively or the petc_ck and float valve are stuck open. Looking for an explosion if it does ignite! Best to investigate before trying to fire it up. Pull the spark plug wire off and seal it up somehow then while the exhaust is off, use the kickstart to pump out any fluids from the crankcase. Put a large rag just in front of the exhaust port. Inspect the valve on the fuel tank and pull the carb to determine if float is working or not, or if the float valve is leaking. You are probably not going to find a mechanic that will be willing to go thru all that trouble but if you can do it then you may get it running. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I have taken those steps you suggested. How does one know if the tailpipe is plugged? It feels pretty heavy for such a small pipe.

Fire up the BBQ and throw the pipe on it. Let all that carbon inside burn off. You'll see smoke coming out of both ends. You'll know you are done when the smoking stops. Then just take a hose (after the pipe has cooled), and run water through it to get all the ash gunk out. Caution on doing this though, might P off the neighbors or make them think something is on fire. Would recommend doing it outside of city limits if possible. To speed up the process, Jerry rig a hair drier to it and blow hot air into it as it's cooking. When you are done, clean it off, repaint with VHT paint, and she should look and perform like new.
