I just ordered a trailtech tach and had a few questions about it. Is the battery in it removable and how long do they usually last (years).

Battery is built-in and not user replaceable. Im sure its possible if youre skilled enough to do it without breaking it. Documentation claims the battery will last years. How MANY years isnt specified. I have one thats on year 3 and still going strong.

I'm up to year 4 on my temp and tacho trail tech gauges. No signs of the battery stopping yet.

So, the company I work for, Polaris, actually owns TrailTech. So full disclosure, I have a vested interest via stock purchases in how well TT does. I believe the average life expectancy of the battery is around 5 years. I believe this is satisfactory, but more emphasis needs put on accessibility to the battery when it does finally go so that the end user can change it and continue using the product. Honestly, I see it both ways. The battery finally goes after say 5 years, you upgrade to a different model of TT product instead of them having to go through the trouble of producing batteries. I will send a memo via internal E-mail to the appropriate personal to address this concern. But, if you think about it, 5 years and reliable is better then Chinese junk anytime.

Polaris wouldnt need to produce batteries...just make them replaceable. I can find whatever battery is used. I cant imagine Polaris would use a unique battery specifically made for any of their products.If they did, they could sell their ÔÇ£specialÔÇØ batteries for a premium. I see other industries do this. The only place to get replacement parts is from them and they know it...then charge through the nose. Got ya by the short hairs.

The TT Tach I have is 4 yrs, 9mo old and still running, New one every five years is not too bad to me.

Ab idea for an upscale model is to add a +12v power option. With +12v, there would be power for a display light.

The Vapor all-in-one (Tach, Temp, speedometer, computer...) DOES have a 12V power input. Not sure if it recharges an internal battery (which will eventually need replacement too....) or if there's a button battery that is sacrificed after 5 years like most tachs. But anyway its memory keeps your highest speed, temp, and RPM until you clear it. Maybe that function will be lost if the internal battery goes dead.

Got the tachometer installed today and it works great. It's also a lot smaller than I was expecting it to be.
