Retrofit X1 49cc Expansion chamber to stock exhaust

Post by ASpreeOfJoy »

Hey my fellow scoots, in todays day and age i cant find my self not tweaking with things. I made an intake a while back and while it looked cool and "worked" i needed more. I was browsing ebay and saw the little pocket bike expansion chambers were sized for 49cc and very cheap. This is what i have fitted, https://www.ebay.com/i/272082239435?chn=ps

I will upload pictures and what i did too fit the pipe in an hour or so, my phone isn't working right at the moment.

It sounds almost like a small dirt bike. After a rejet and some exaust tip size tuning I had it hitting 28-30 but it was very torquey from low to mid rpm. I'm using a drilled #74 jet. I took video of how it sounds, I might cut the studs to the silencer and pack it with dirt bike muffler material.

You got seriously lucky with that pipe dude. That one was a good choice to mount on there because of it's stamped design and no header pipe into it. The regular old pocket bike pipes have the header with two inches inside the chamber that wreck the pulses completely unless you repair it. Sounds healthy to me. Your top speed won't change all that much unless you can get it to rev higher than stock and get the gearing changed a little. If that is an 84 or 85 spree 28MPH is normal and 30 is pretty good really on flat ground. You may want to inspect the belt and measure the width against the specs in the manual. A narrow belt will give better bottom end at the expense of top end.

Also you managed to get the header the correct length for your needs by the sound of it. Header length is critical to the rpm range you want to get the pipe to work in. If the pipe and header don't give it might hit way too high and rpm making it gutless in the bottom and mid range

It was quite heavy so I cut the stock muffler mounting tab and put a slit in it so slide a clamp through it. I tightened it to support the weight, then tightened the 2 exaust nuts, then torqued down the clamp for no wigglez. I'm a 210 pound rider and it zips to speed very quickly, if I put my feet down and stand up while cracking the throttle it tries to wheelie away. Not sure if it's related but it seems like the clutch engages quicker because my 0-15 is a heck of a lot better. I have 86-87 gearing that I'm waiting to put into my spree once I have everything apart.

sounds like the pipe is doing its job. if it was wrong it wouldnt wheelie up from a stop like that at all. you have the intake figured out and the jetting is prob fine as well. Keep an eye on the temps at wide open throttle just in case. Again you got lucky with it all. keep at it that thing is coming along nicely

I forgot to post a mount pic, it was a first thought to cut the tab and reuse what already worked. I did a lot of riding today and I can keep 25mph going up a steady incline. Something to note, it goes to 25 very quickly now, and when I hold a steady speed for a bit it will just start rising in speed quickly again until I hit 30. I have reason to believe my filter set up is causing bad turbulence which is why it holds at 25 for a bit on flats, Then again I did drill my jet :p. A real number 74 jet is to come soon and a cht gauge aswell.
