It's a '79 Motobecane Moped, (sorry scooter guys, some of us ride both) I got it from a friend who had it stored for 25+ years. Thank goodness he never put gas in it - so it was pretty much mint condition when I received it. It took a good once-over to relube and free up some of the frozen parts. The oil and grease in some of the parts had turned to varnish. It goes about 30-35 mph.

i might be a 'scooter guy' but i love mopeds. its just so hard to find them in good condition like that one. And about 35? thats good for a true moped, let along one that old. Thats a nice bike you got there.

and personly if i had a 'moped' i would ride it just as much as i do my scooters.

Yes, the normal DMV requirement to be classified as a Moped in most states is that they are 2hp or less, under 50cc, and maximum speed is 30mph. Some states require pedal power in addition to the motor, hence, "Mo-Ped", and all the rest, (scooters) are grouped in a small motorcycle class. This is how it is in California.

The Puch's that MySpree is refering to are usually European and would be classified as Motorcycles in the US. Most of them don't even have Pedals and the faster ones have gearing - where here, most state's requirements for mopeds are to have pedals, and single speed (or automatic variated) transmissions.
