Stripped spark plug hole

Post by Mariospree89 »

I stripped my spark plug hole. When I bought a new plug. Does anybody know the tap size to fix it?

First, we ALWAYS need to know the year and model of bike in question.
Second, you cannot just re-tap the hole the same size...that dimension is GONE.
If you want to fix the head you have, you must buy a thread insert kit, such as " Heli-Coil" brand.
Personally, I would buy a used head and replace the trashed head.

Greetings:

Most of us have gotten in a hurry and cross-threaded something.
Lots of Forum members have opted for the big-bore option on their Sprees. Good used heads are cheap and easy to find.
You might have to remove all the plastics to get the cooling shrouds off and get to the head. Another option - and believe it or not it might be faster - is to drop the engine out of the frame. However you decide to go, be careful not to disturb the cylinder when you pull the head off. Use a NEW head gasket or risk having to do it over. Torque the head bolts down to spec, carefully in a step-wise cross pattern. If none of this makes sense to you, do some reading of the Build posts and Wiki, and ask for help.
