NH125 Aero roller guides

Hey everyone, I picked up a cherry aero 125 the other day. After changing battery, cleaning out the varnish filled gas tank, replacing the petcock (after I cleaned the original one, it would let gas drain into the carb when not running, flooding the engine; i think the rubber components were no longer good,) cleaning the carburetor, and changing the final drive oil, it starts right up and runs well...until about 30/35. It seems like it's fuel starving at that point, and loses all power until I roll back the throttle, and then the power returns. It also is a little shaky from 0 to about 20 mph. Takeoff is acceptable from a standstill, and really takes off at about 5 mph. I'm going to change the fuel and suction lines to ensure there are no vacuum/air leaks there. I also ordered a NOS oem belt, as well as NOS oem variator roller weights. Waiting on those to arrive next week to take apart the transmission and have a look in there. My question is, does anyone know where to get the 3 roller weight slide guides? Are they compatible with other more common scooter models? The only set I've found that I know are correct are located overseas, and I would like to order some that would arrive next week instead of several weeks out. Just want to make sure I have all the spare parts I may need when I get the variator out and apart for inspection. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Thanks motormike, I read through your post and enjoyed the story and picked up some pointers. Also after more research, it seems that the aero 125 shares the same variator components as the elite 125. Picked up some slide guides I found on ebay, so should have everything next week. After riding the aero today, I can def feel the belt is slipping quite a bit and vibrating a lot before catching hold, maybe because it was a lot hotter out today than the last test ride I took it on a few days ago. Either way, hopefully all new parts mentioned will do the trick.

I don't know what you paid for that "OEM belt", but they were very expensive last time I looked.
The optional belts are 1/4 the cost and work fine.

Now that I’m looking at the listing again I’m noticing it doesn’t mention it being oem. I just saw he was listing it as Honda with the correct part number and just assumed so, who knows. From reading your thread I got the impression that it might be tricky sourcing the correct size in aftermarket, I should have looked into that more.

Got my parts in and decided to open it up today. The belt was badly shredded, only 2 teeth remained. The variator was full of hardened grease, and the weights all had 2 or 3 flat spots.

Also, is the pulley plate supposed to be tiered like this? Or is this from the belt?

Well, the new belt got cooked and exploded when I was going wide open down a long straightaway. Thank goodness it didn’t get crammed up enough in between the bell/pulley/variator cover to jam the rear wheel from rolling. That’s what I get for not taking the clutch off to inspect when I worked on the variator. The clutch pads were pretty much gone, and the shoes had completely destroyed the inside of the bell, heat must have been crazy high. The face of the pulley was pretty rough as well.

Tough luck that one... :cry:
I exploded a belt too, but it was the original that I put into service without checking condition.
Then I rode it a good 100 miles non-stop until she blew.
That's when I went looking for a belt (2012 probably), and found them very expensive and hard to get.
My thread on Ruby gives all the info I found for replacement.
Never had any trouble with a the alternate size that I chose.
Hope you can get some replacement clutch and variator choices to keep the bike going.

So I would replace the variator and clutch assembly. I hate to send you on that quest but that pitting is gonna tear up belts. Scooter swap shop has performance aftermarket options or ebay will be your best bet. Make a wtb post in the for sale thread. But I personal would not reuse that pully setup on the clutch or that variator.
