Newbie with an nv

Post by bigpants »

Hi everyone. Newbie here saying hello . Got myself a honda nv50 stream 3 wheeling tilter. This is added to the collection of
Aprillia rs125 custom
Aprillia rs125 with maico 620 engine
Kx500 streetfighter
2002 yzf 1000 r1
1986 suzuki gsxr1100 yoshi rep
Guzzi 1100i cafe racer
1986 honda rs125 race bike.
But the bike I really want working is my beautiful stream and I am definatly going to need some help with that as I know nothing about the twist and go gearbox and parts are hard to find in the UK.

So, bigpants...you've had this Stream for 9 years ?
Sorry to say, but nothing here in the USA to help you.
We never got them.

I had no idea I'd registered here before ! But yes 9 years it's sat in the garage. Incase there are others out there that might know these tb07 engines my question is which engine and gearbox parts are shared with other models and thus might be replacable with new ?
Any help much appreciated.

I took a quick look and found the TB07 to be used in the Stream, and NO OTHER member of the Gyro family.

Well that's an odd one. What's the year of production?
With year of production and the model number, you can start mining the Honda catalog. It's not unusual for Honda to use parts across a few engine models, and some parts are standard (bearings, seals, etc.)
If the engine is complete you may not need anything. Many Hondas can be made to run from dead.

Bodywork is usually the hardest thing to run down on rare models.

Take a picture of the air filter element when you get a chance. Sort of a personal interest

It's an '86 registration but I think it's year of production might be a couple of years before that. I've rebuilt the top end and it starts but it accelerates very slowly upto a max of 15mph and a hill will drop that to 5pmh. I've never had a twist and go gearbox and it feels to me that the issue is there , like it's stuck in a very limited gear range. I've whipped all the gear bits off and cleaned the faces , squished the spring etc and for one acceleration it goes quite well but then gets stuck again. I thought if I could I'd cross reference the parts with the csml database and just replace it all as it seems cheap enough. But I've got no part numbers for the stream. I'm sure most of the parts will have been used on other models.

Probably right bigpants...parts likely shared with something else.
Did you inspect the roller weights in the variator ?
That is where I would look, checking for flat spots on rollers.
Those can be replaced with ease i should think.
Check dimensions of drive belt, check against service limits...if you can find that info.

Yeah... that sounds like a locked up variator. Suppose clutch could be as well but that would be round 2. Last is belt...
Post pictures, members will be able to direct you to the correct parts. There's a ton of aftermarket on Honda scoots and I suspect something will fit for those weights.

... did you clean out the exhaust, and is the air cleaner / airbox in place?
