Out to work, but might be better if it also swung outwards a little as it goes down.

I have a Honda Gyro (three wheeler) that previously had a broken pivot
lock. Normally, on a Gyro, you flip a lever, that action sets a parking pawl to lock one rear wheel, *and* locks up the pivot to the Gyro frame will stay upright. With a broken pivot lock, the frame would fall to one side almost like a 2 wheeled scooter.

Anyway, instead of fixing the pivot lock the prevous owner just welded on a bicycle kickstand, then did a little shortening and bending. it worked excellent, but added another step to parking the Gyro.

Getting back to making the kickstand swing outwards - Take a look at a bicycle kickstand, they are mounted at an angle to increase the spread from the frame as it is swung down. Without the angled mount, your kickstand may end up sticking out further than you want when it's in the 'up' position.

A downside of the side style kickstand is that parked on uphill/downhills, you'd be more likely to need to set your parking brake, the kickstand doesn't have much holding power even on a bicycle.

That wouldn't work well with the Honda center stand design on the Spree (not sure on others.) Not sure what the point is in any case; center stand is usually better grounding; it's not a 600# bike, after all.

Not to bring up an old topic. But on the Elite's a mod like this works. I have a 95 that the center stand has been cut and made into a side stand. I will post some pics if you guys want. It works quite well.

hahaha, bumping up one of my first topics i ever made.

Yeah man, post it up.

You can buy side stands for the elite, but they are hard to find and cost a lot. So if it does work good then maybe more people will do it.

As crude as this looks, it works good. It holds my 280 pound butt with no problems.

Kinda hard to get a couple of shots in the dark, but you get the idea.

Tomorrow I will get a pic of it folded up. It looks good up. It looks ugly but it works very well though.

Oh and before anybody goes and gives me credit for it, it was on my scoot when I got it. I would rather have the center stand myself. I'm always kinda worried that someday it might run away on me.
