Spark plug question? Are these 2 the same?

Post by scooternewby »

Hello. So I have 2 plugs. My scooter has an NGK BPR6HSA in it now. I have a new one and its labled BPR6HS, with no A at the end. Is that the same thing? or should I head back to the store?

Thank you very much

Run what the honda manual recommends, a 6 will work but the 8 is better.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

6 or 8? Im not sure what you mean, OR what is recommended. I was just going by what I took OUT of the scooter.

Does anyone know what the proper plug is?

Wrong.

for a stock motor 6 is fine. 8 is what people use on bore kits.

Im not sure if the A stands for anything important or not.
I Say your fine. dont worry about it. i think A just stands for something about the plug like "longer life" but something that starts with an A.

To the best of my knowledge, there the same plug. and its the plug that honda recommends.

The guy at Canadian Tire says it has something to do with its operating heat. . . whatever that means.

6 is for stop go type driving, the 8 is for wide open fully wound out driving. the 8 sucks more heat out of the head.

The manual says;

Standard - BPR6HS and after '85 BPRSHA
Cold Climate - BPR4HS and after '85 BPR4HSA
Below 41° F
Extended High
Speed Riding BPR8HS and after'85 BPR8HSA

That means the 4 is a hotter plug and an 8 is colder. Stick with the standard unless you meet the other requirements.

Oh and to answer your question, no they are not the same.
Don't ask me to decode NGK plug numbers. I can remember that the number is the heat range, hotter = lower # and colder = higher # and the "R" stands for "resister" The rests is lost and gone forever and I no longer have an NGK catalog and their web site sucks.

Actually the plug pulls the heat out of the plug tip and transfers it to the head.

A is what most stock small bores take, it means extended tip.

Ex. In stock Jog: BR7HSA = extended tip hotter range
In modded Jog: BR9HS = shorter tip, colder heat range
projects galore :nerd:

It's In Your Manual

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

The Aero 50 manual says BPR-6HS OR-HSA. I'll go out on a limb here and say either one is OK for a stock mill. The wrong plug can cause a lot of trouble but Soichiro Honda himself approved both.
