help ID this honda moped...moped has been ID'd
I bought this yesterday on a bill of sale and the guy told me it was a late 80's spree. I know that is wrong but I don't know what it is. Based on pictures from google, I think it might be a 1990 elite LX. It was originally red but has been spray painted black.
What do you think?

Looks a lot like my 89 SA/LX, except missing the lower skirts. Yes, I believe it is. Battery right under the crotch, tail looks same. Yep, I believe that's what it is.
There are some decals inside the storage compartment. There is one decal with the year on it.
EDITED: Evilone posted while I was researching and got sidetracked. I don't know the Dio, but my case cover is one piece, as opposed to what evilone said about split case. But all appearance indicates SA/LX for sure.

I checked for stickers
I checked under the seat, there are 2 stickers: 1)unleaded gas only 2)SA50PR
I also got the first 8 digits of the vin: 3H1AF161
thanks for all the help...I need to get some parts and this will really narrow down my search.

Like i said, 94-01 Elite with Dio motor. Dio motor code is AF16. Same as in the vin and it will be stamped on motor behind the trans covers (opposite side of wheel). VIN with year of scooter is under floorboard on frame. When you see the sticker under floorboard and part of it is scraped away...it's probably stolen . I have 2 spare frames that i'm stuck with since i bought them for parts and later found vin stickers scratched out. These * scratching out the vin on sticker don't realize there is a metal tab right by it that has the vin stamped into it . 88-93 Elites look identical but have motor codes af05.I also got the first 8 digits of the vin: 3H1AF161

Sounds like you may be ready for an overhaul. May as well make it an overbore kit while you're at it.eliteguy50 wrote:the vin isn't scratched out, but the fan cover was gone and the cylinder is scratched to *. I assume it got hot without the fan cover forcing the air to cool the cylinder and that is why I got it so cheap.
I've noticed two on eBay. One is the Polini sold by daywot. That's the one I purchased. The AF05E kit I purchased is overbored 6mm. I would assume the Dio kit would be similar, boosting it up to over 70cc.
There is another vendor called "chopchop". His kit is about 1/2 the price, claims to be American made (I think the Polini is Italian?), but is only overbored 4mm. That's still a big jump over stock.
EDITED: Correction on chopchop's kit. He doesn't say "made in America". He says "Not made in China".

He's got at least three and a super kit. I was shopping tonight. He' got one for Spree; 1988-1993 SA50; 1994-2001 (Dio); one he calls a 50mm large bore (3mm over stock 47), calls it SA50, but I was thinking Dio was small bore (39mm), long stroke? Somebody correct me here... And he's got a super kit for Dio which includes an enlarged intake manifold to handle a larger carb. His Dio kits include head, whereas Spree kit and early SA50 (AF05E) kit uses old head.Eft37 wrote:I think "chopchop" is that new guy Marc who does the Spree bores.
So chopchops are Taiwan? Am I correct that daywok's Polini is Italian? I don't mind Taiwan kits as I believe their metalurgy is better than mainline China from what I understand, equivalent to Japan's metalurgy.
EDITED: I just checked the service manual, and I was correct. The 94-2001 SA50 has 39mm bore. So I'm not sure what his large bore 50mm is. He says it's a 3mm over 47mm stock. What is this? He says it's 1994-2001 SA50?
