Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

I am looking for more storage and saw a aero 50 on CL. for $450. It is an hour away so I want to make sure it is something I like before I go there.

I have never ridden one (aero 50) but I have owned several other scoots (elite e, dio elite s, aero 125, aero 80, zuma, passport 70...). What year is better 83-84 or 85-87? How do these compare to others as far as motor performance and ride (I don't want it if it performs like the elite E)?

I've had one. Eehh... "S" FTW! Way more storage, AF16E motor, looks better, aftermarket parts galore, higher resale value. I'm sure you can find an "S" for $450 in CONUS. AERO performs worse than the "e' since its heavier. Best to drop in an AF16E, but hard to come by.

I absolutely love mine. I used to cruise my buddy's Spree and the 85 Aero blows it away. Got it on CL for $300 last summer when gas was spendy and it paid itself off in a month. 65mpg-38mph. I find it's kinda like driving a VW bus in that people are happy to see you, waiving and smiling. Get it.

Love mine (an 85 NB50M). I just filled up at a gas station today (I usually fill from a can at home) so I was able to get my exact mpg from the last tank.

83 mpg!

in my opinion, the 2nd gen. Aero 50 is the best scooter ever produced. Styling, performance, ease of modifying, and Honda quality! Long-live the NB50!!

All the Aeros should handily outperform a Spree or E. It's the miracle of the CVT.

The '86-'87s open up more upgrade opportunites than the '85, and the '83-'84s are even harder to modify.

Unless you're happy with 40 MPH, $450 is too much for an '84 IMO. Maybe if the plastics are immaculate.. If the deal is for a clean '86 and you like the style, get it!.

i absolutely love mine. but that's because i'm obsessed with vintage Vespas, and it's the closest of the 80s honda line to one. not to mention the best looking!

it's an 85, though, so sometimes i really hate not having a kickstart, since i've crashed it quite a few times and the electric start requires some punching and kicking of the battery to start up now... kickstart is definitely needed. what were they thinking??

what years have or dont have a kick start?

i belive 85 is the only year without.

the aero definitely smokes the lighter, less powerful, cvt-less elite e, i have both. 85-87 have more potential for modification, but the 83-84 is also a good looking scoot, classic, stylish, and practical.

I got pics of the aero...I think it is an 86 or 87. it has 5500 miles. someone said they got theirs for $300. would $350 be a good offer for this condition or is that too low? I do like the rear basket seeing as my use will be transporting.

In that condition I think $300-350 would be reasonable. Looks like its pretty much all there except for the elusive "between the rear lights" panel. Fresh paint would do wonders, even rattle can

I wondered if that empty space was suppossed to be there.

It would also need the exhaust side mirrior replaced, straight brake levers.The seat has been recovered. The tires are mounted in the wrong direction on the rims. I don't know how common that sun bleaching is on the plastics. What concerned me the most is the different amount of fading on the foot board compaired to the instrument cluster, leading me to think the odometer might have been replaces with a lower mile unit.

I bought an 86 yesterday in Key West Florida for $100. The seat cover is shredded, and its dirty but otherwise everything works. Its fun! If you can get it cheaper go for it.
