'85 Aero 50 rebuild

Post by Bandit240 »

Alright, so i bought a bunch of scoots and there was an '85 Aero 50 in there. It wasn't the best looking, but had more of a chance of being fixed up than the others.

As i got it.

I took the front wheel off an Elite 50 ive got to use on it. Cleaned the carb and noticed the starter was gone. Took the starter off the Elite 50 and it fired right up.

So i rode it around for a day or so and decided to clean it up. Also took the stand off my Spree and put it on the Aero.

The back tire was pretty much bald and done. All ive got around is a Kenda 3.50x10. Mounted that to a 1.85 wide rim off a '01 Elite 50 and stuck it on. Just does fit. Pretty clean in there too. Ill really clean and paint the rim when i put a new tire on. Thinking of a Pirelli SL26 3x10. Got them on my Helix and like them.

Ill be doing more work over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out. Might get some vids of wheelies soon.

Alright, so the GPS says i top out on the Aero at 37.5mph. What can i do without major mods right now to make it faster? Ive got a larger rear tire on it right now. Im thinking a new belt(old, original), maybe clean the vari up and see how the rollers are. Its stock jet, stock airbox with a new filter right now.

with a new belt / rollers / new keli vari, i was able to get mine up to 42 on the flat.
have yet to GPS with the o-ringed head with higher compression.
if you can find a cheep ruckus vari, they apparently work fantastic with some work to the belt case.

I know with my 87 elite I hit about 40 on a flat gps comfirmed with just a met rear wheel. I can't wait to get my ruck variator on there.

if you have any laying around, one size jet up might give it a bit more oomph. i haven't heard anyone else try this yet, but it certainly worked for me.
