The expansion chamber on the muffler looks a bit small.

Tazz I gave it a shot lost power / very loud so yes it was a little small... So I replace it with the stock one .
But it did look cool and made a lot of noise while running wide open at 25 MPH.

one question why is the back finder still on ??
your not using the air filter so the only thing in the finder is the coil i think??
swimmingfree
p.s.
with the new pipe you wont have a spot to bolt the back of the finder on to innhow
Hey Swimmingfree
First sorry I took so long to get back to you . I cut the air filter off and the fender actually looked
clean and I did put the CDI box on top as there was just a space that it would fit . Swimmin you are right I probably could have chopped or removed the fender
But when I finished the exhaust and started doing some test runs .... It was a disaster I lost power / it was really loud but it did look cool .
So sorry to say I put back the stock pipe and got the power back . I still would like to find a exhaust that will give me some extra power .
But for the spree there are not many options .

Thanks Mopro
I liked the pipe too until I spent almost a whole day cutting and welding and making a mount . Then finding out it didn't work for $hit .
I got it at some scooter wherehouse that had some old $hit sitting around paid $15.00 for it and just thought what if it did work ?
Well now I know better ... Lesson learned .

2 questions. 1, what do you use to clean? My 89 elite belt cover is painted black, I would like to remove the paint if possible, and also, i think mine is one solid piece, did you cut it in half?

A really strong solvent that can strip paint is called M.E.K. You can find it at home depot. I used it to clean/strip my frame before sending it off to powdercoating.

Hey Swimmin
Good questions ....
I lost at least 5 mph or more .
I am so bummed I don't even want to measure the hole in the tip .
I lost bottom & top in power .
Too loud yes I already had the tip packed and still loud .
Well I have to be honest I was at a scooter junk yard today and yes I got a couple more pipes to expirment with so I guess I lied about never making another pipe ,I have a good feeling about this one just more welding and more grinding and more measuring eeeeeeh.
I just posted a bunch of pics of my trip to a scooter junk yard in Vegas you should check it out , you might be surprised .
Here is a bunch of pipes I grabbed 2 that will fit a 50cc maybe ?

Hey 89eliteR
More good questions .....
What do I use to clean bikes ?
My favorite grease remover to start with is Greased Lighting I use so much I have been buying 5 gallon drums ,
It's just a good remover to start with it is not that expensive and not corrosive ,It just loosens the muck to get a good start .I even spray it on my hands as a cleaner.

Then to just clean stuff up I start with Windex .

I also use MEK (methol ethol ketone) like the others said its strong stuff ( it's also used as part of the formula to make crystal meth ) it's not cheap and always test it as it will eat right through some plastics .

I also use some stuff they sell at Harbor freight a de-greaser in a gallon jug and use a harbor freight engine de greaser gun hooked up to a compresor .
With the de-greaser and the air pressure it almost pushes the grease off.

Note ....if your spraying your engine always put a rag in your carb opening then take a plastic bag and put it over the carb then use a elastic band and really wrap it around the bag a few times to keep anything out of your engine ...

If your trying to get paint off metal I have been useing a areosol paint stripper ....works great spray it on wait 5 - 10 min. the paint will get all wrinkely hose it off done i have even used it on some plastics with great results (always do a test spot on plastic ) I am too lazy to go look at the name but they sell it at walmart in the paint dept.
A little pricey but a real time saver .
Also wallmart useully has the best prices on most cleaning supplys .

I also use walmart brake cleanner / carb cleanner and mothers back to black .

Also the small wire brushes from Harbor Freight work great the get stubborn spots .

But the most effective cleaner is Elbow Grease use as much as you can as long as you can .

Sorry for rambling on but I have so many different cleaners ,I just like a clean machine .

Question #2 Yes I did cut it in 1/2 .... I used a big chop saw ...... cut it like butter .
I was just messing around and almost threw it away but when I was working on this bike I thought ? ? ? Why not stick it on .
Also I had a few extra covers so I wasn't worried if it messed up .
If you only have 1 get it right the first time ,I was just lucky .

i bet that the tip is to big!!
not a nuff back presser tack weld a washer at the tip with a hole that is a bout the same size as the hole in the tip of the stock pipe or a little bigger ..
ill bet you get some of you speed back and maybe more!!!
these motor need some back presser to run the best to munch
and your speed is 25 (( im sure hear that a fue times )) ..
to little and you lose hp and tork and rpms i have not head it here but ill bet if some one put a 3/8 inch hole in there stock pipe to make it go faster a fue people will tell them to weld it shot ..
but do as you please you have done grate on that spree so far dont do it make me happy its your spree

love the scrap yard lots of goody there..

Why do I feel like this is going to be another disaster waiting to happen ?
This is just some tests I have been doing / nothing has been welded only cut .
The pipe weighs a lot so extra mounts will need to be made . Oh Boy !
Tazz said it will probably rip the header out of the cylinder .

OK started welding and making supports to hold the extreamly over weight exhaust .
finished the basic welds and took it for a test run .
I could feel the pick up and it felt pretty good and not that loud .
Only problem was top speed 25-26 mph .I just think it needs to be re-jetted for the exhaust .
And hopefully the new gears that Tazz will be installing next week .
Ya who this project might be coming to a finish .
Oh you ask why didn't I finish the welds tonight ?
Hmmmmm thats easy because I ran out of wire for my welder .
