So I found a new problem. I had the bike outside ideling for about 30 minutes. I didn't not rev it up (throttle cable came off at the carb) and while fixing it I noticed some oil on the belt cover. After further inspection I find a lot of oil on the exahust and the block of the motor. Its late so I didn't take off the fan cover and cooling shroud but I suspect it is coming from the head of the motor. I will inspect and update tomorrow, and add picks in the am. In the mean time any ideas? Is this normal behavior?

its possible it could be coming out around the exhaust flange, the exhaust gasket may not be sealing it off

It seems to be isolated there. There isn't much oil above it

That is typically where I find problems when scoots come in. Aftermarket pipes don't always seal with stock gaskets or crush rings.

a vw beetle exhaust gasket may solve your problem. i put one on mine on top of the stock exhaust gasket and havent had that particular problem since :D

New beetle or old beetle? and are they pricey? I'm using the exhaust gasket that came with my BBK. I still have the stock one as well.

Greetings:

By dumb luck, the old air-cooled VW (Beetle, 411, and MicroBus) exhaust flange gaskets are a near-perfect fit for the several big-bore kits I've had. You have to enlarge the stud holes to the inside just a hair, and that keeps the gasket centered over the exhaust outlet. Not the greatest seal, however, but good enough.

I might fire the stock gasket in tonight and observe the results while i hunt down a vw one. Looking at the pics it seems like its coming from the exhaust port.

you can get a gasket kit at autozone for around 13 dollars that has 4 gaskets :D I think the one you are looking at is the smaller one. you need the big manifold gasket

Congrats on the first start up and thanks for the vid! I was looking at the pics you posted of the "chaos" and ,I could be incorrect but, is the exhaust pipe aligned with the exhaust port correctly? It is possible that that could be your problem, or part of it. I know I've done it myself at least once and also, while I'm here, I use the thicker flange gasket with a good amount of red rtv hi-temp. sealant. I also let it cure overnight before running it again. Getting the bolts started on the support of the pipe and the two exhaust studs threaded on is sometimes a bit of a trick. That's where the mis-alignment can happen if I'm not paying attention. Just my own experience. Also, a couple of washers will help hold it in place. Hope you solve it and get out there and have some fun!!! :coolcruise: Happy Trails!
