So after the blow out I've got the engine out so I thought I would take this opportunity to put in the gear set that I got. I disassembled the gear box took out the gear shaft and took it down to the local garage to have the old gear pressed out and the new one pressed in. Was the best 10$ I've ever spent cause he did it in about 10min and would have sucked doing it my self I recommend this method! Put a new gasket on put all back together and new oil in!

7.41:1 ratio I think, was 7.4ish turns on the clutch bell.

I hope your lighter than 130lbs? the dd50 is a heavier than a sa50 and 8to1 gears is prety much match for 72-82cc setups which is good to about 70mph. going smaller on the gears stretches the power out a little much. why loose lowend-midrange and go maybe 1mph faster
Nothing like getting stroked!

They were the gears that came with the kit! If they are too high I'll swap them back out it was more of just a challenge to see if I could get it done!

What would be the ideal setup for gears on this build to get to about 55 and have ok take off speed?

You can run the 7.4's but you'll need some rev.
And like what baka said, why noticable loose low end for jus a 1mph top?
8.4:1 or 8:1 is perfect for dd50's
Stock af16 gears in the dd50 block will turn out to be 8.1:1

I posted this before with the 15~42 is 7.93:1 is that correct?

Those secondaries in the picture are from your dd50 block right?
The stock dd 50 gear ratio comes out lower, with the same secondaries.
For example, 7.4:1 on a dd50 block, put the same exact secondary gears into a af16 block, it comes out to 9.2:1
Thats why i said use stock 10:1 af16 secondaries on your dd50 block with the dd50 front and rear shafts and it'll come out to 8:1.

And yes, 15x42 should come out to 7.9:1, pretty much 8:1. You sure you counted 7.4:1 with the clutchbell/rear tire trick?
