this is my first major rework. Its been a great way to get my head around the concept of 2 stroke (I've been on 4 strokes for 25 years) so I have a pile of parts from craigs list.

2 frames? You plan on building 2 or one spree?

Looks like you have alot of work to do :D Is the engine in that blue box back there?
What parts are you missing?

well first I found a good lower end ( crank case and drive train) in all this mess then found that I had 3 bad cylinder sleeves ...mmmm what to do  so I got on line and lucky me I found this forum! I also found out that the rebuild of the top end would cost a small fortune if i went to Honda

sooooo I jumped on e-bay and what do you know I found the 44 mm big bore kit (comes with 44mm piston w/rings and sleeve, piston pin and sir clips top and bottom gaskets, also a jet (the size was not specified). I paid the 100 for the kit and 10 for S&h on a thursday night and it was at my house monday when I had gotten home from work
It came with a bit of instruction and the # and address of a person who could mill my head to fit if I chose to send it out(the head must be milled to the larger bore)
his name is tobbogan on the forum (awesome guy!)

so I went to work on the parts I had just cleaning and putting a few coats of paint on the lower unit, tested the starter and and choke(10 ohms on the multimeter)
I'm leaving the stock belt on till the break-in is done then I'll move up to a 1/2 x 24

and heres what I have so far . not to bad for a wire wheel and a steamer

I'll put pics up with the head soon ( it came back looking like it was just out of the box ) great work Tobbogan!!

yeah I've got ocd  but I dont have rear plastics so I really wanted it to look as good as it can

anyway I figured it would take 3 times as long as it did for the engine to come together so I stripped the entire frame down for a good de-smegg and a paint job. I'm talking all the way down! there are no to pieces bolted together, It was also a good chance to give the wire harness a good once over

most of the plastics have been painted and I'll have pics next post.

I have most of the parts I need I think I'm missing the rear plastics and the tail light rack but I'm thinking about making some hard side cases(I have them on my bmw motorcycle and love them..these would be most likely ammo cans or the like some thing easy to work with and that I can mount some turn signals into.

Any semi competent machinist can mill a head.

most of the paint is done on the frame and engine I used automotive primer and a protective enamel . the plastics got rust-olium plastic primer and some hunter green.
I would like to put a few rally stripes on it then a 84 in a circle like the old lil MG cars. but with the green i half tempted to go with a john deere logo.

Well , I was up till 12 last night but I have it pretty well done with the parts I have (no back plastics or rear cargo rear signals rack or mirrors)
I am very happy with the color scheme. I painted the the whole frame black and the rims as well since I blacked out the crank and housing. This seems to down play the lack of plastics. I'm still not sold on what kind of rally stripe to go with ...or john deere symbol..he he he . I'm in the process of dialing in the new big bore. I'm just waiting for some jets so I can try a few setups..wow what a fun week. started on a Sunday finished on the following Sunday.

BTW MY STARTER DOESNT HAVE A LOT 0F SPEED IS THIS COMMON.and will it reflect in my spark?

whats been done -

tazlands 44mm big bore <--------- fantastic

head milled to big bore spec<-----------great job done by toboggan

95 jet in carb - 5 -1/2 inch holes in the top of the air box

opened more volume in the top of the intake by grinding out some material

stock pipe went through a cleaning by wood stove--get it real hot and remove from the stove TAKE OUT SIDE and blow air from a compressor into one end and the rush of air will burn a lot of carbon out - reheat and blow in the other end do this till you feel that its lost some carbon. I tap it with a screw driver it should sound tiny if it sounds like a thud it could be more carbon

replaced the side cover with a kicker cover from and 86 ......be careful if you buy on ebay the kicker sides don't ever seem to be sold with the kicker flywheel and its a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
starter and bendix from the 86

tazlands big bore gave great torque so

shaved the front pully (used a 86 it has more meat on it )I added 1 washer on the front of the flywheel (this mod also helped my starter catch better as it brought the flywheel closer to the bendix)

went to a 1/2 - 25 gates green kevlar belt

tazlands big bore gave great torque but if you don.t feel you have the power try the belt first its 12 bucks. I have a lot of pulleys so i didnt mind cutting one . I love the having both. with 2 belts -one new stock and the gates upgrade and 2 pulleys one stock and one milled there is a lot you can do to the power curve ... but first have your suff tuned in. the results will be worse if you cant make good power

BELT!!!!
I had a worn belt and was getting 27mph after the belt and pulley mod i was up to 34-35

new battery

massive repair and re-tape of the wire harness

complete strip to the frame and repaint frame, rims and forks w/protective black enamel forks bearings removed and repacked

remove stock pet * and then went to pre mix 32:1 after break in. connected both ports on the intake together wit a short tube. why waste vacuum on opening the diaphragm now i use the oil tank as a reserve tank

no back plastics so why have fronts

chopped the back fender (i love It)
the front is next for reworking !

whats up next

new tires - I'm going to 10x3 street tires

custom turn signals

hard removable saddle bags

new seat

tazland's new gears when the money's there

port the exhaust

AND

using the expansion pipe calculator make a pipe
I have a guy at work doing up a .cad file for the patterns to mark and cut for roll/weld your own pipes base on stock bore + 15mm2 removed in material removed in exhaust porting the stock port size is 225mm2 so I went 240mm2 thats about 2mill by7 mill removed

so I hope to have at least a pdf for a untested pipe to offer up soon! this is a sore spot for me as spree pipes seam to be on the minds of owners, And with bore and gear kits there to provide more breathing in and out of a engine that was restricted to start with. I would like to see a pipe for the 44 -47 mm kits as people who spend to upgrade will spend to up grade !!

Ill let you know how the new tire roll. 2 mph faster is great when you needed new skins anyway

thanks to all who gave me hope and good advice!! this groups is the bomb ..i've looked at some honda express forums and found no where near this much great help

I much to learn
thanks
mkluvin :2thumbs:
