Greetings:

Great build!
Now about those colors... I happen to like purple, no Wheelman mocking will you hear. Except the title of my post.
The green, with that purple... Uh, not so much. If those front parts are from an '87, you should be able to paint. I'd try to split the black of the cooling shroud and the charcoal of the floorboards. BTW nice job on carving that fender! Still Retro, but slimmer.

Not a big fan of the pastel combo on the body... If pastels are a must I would do one solid pastel for the body then offset another pastel with the wheels... Just my opinion...

yeah- my color..."palate" suffers at time from a certain lack of concern...i was going to go with orange and green but the purple and green got me for some reason.
we'd JUST left our favorite Mexican eatery so...

and i may change it after i see it run and we sort of meld with one another...
i use the Satin paints cus they hide the less than stellar body panels condition...
plus they always lay down real smoothly.

Interesting build.
Seeing your extended shock reminds me why I mounted the engine lower in the frame (at the front) and kept the engine much tighter, more forward. I had to move the tank up a half inch and take out the inner fender. I also made a tighter head pipe to clear the frame.

Shows that there are lot of ways to get it done.
Here is mine.

The shock mount is stock top and bottom. The shock is stock. I was planning on moving the top mount further back but when I did a trial fit I noticed that shock fit without modification.
Here is a photo of the mount during a trial fit while it was just tacked together.

It is 3/4" square tubing welded to the stock mount a tube was used between them at the motor. I cut the stand mount off as that is about the location of the engine mount.

i'd like to enter this in the ugly scooter build contest.

that's the bad news...
good news is i'm going to start all over...
the steering head on this frame is "ruined"
the headstock won't hold the race collar properly because it is...
"wallered" out !!!

lesson? know you have a credible donor base before you start welding/cutting/ building onto a frame....
i'm tempted to take a pipe cutter and cut the whole frontend off it and weld another one onto it! if i could get the geometry right i would.
oh well... i only spent about 50 hours on it...

Greetings:

The colors work a lot better in the sunshine. I take it all back. OK, most of it

Is the "ruined" part the frame or the fork assembly?

I dig the assembled bike! I'm curious, though: Did you have to cut the fenders to fit the motor or was that a styling choice?

the * frame!
but i'm resigned to redoing it now. already brought home 2 87 model Sprees.
THIS time i'm using the Spree wiring harness so the lights et all
work, correctly set the side stand position BEFORE i weld it up,
be CERTAIN the donor frame has a front end with integrity
THEN tune the 99 AF16E to run well.

though i could barely ride it i got a taste of the potential of the 16 power in the lightweight Spree chassis.

different paint too!! ( but still off the beaten path)

thinkin' green with black wheels.

good question.
answer is i did it before i assembled it assuming the motor would not clear but in fact i think it just might.

Cool. I've been thinking about going down the engine swap path, but I'm really curious to see what can be squeezed out of a Spree first.

BTW, if you eviscerate one of the '87 Sprees, would you consider selling the motor?

Bravo mookie, bravo. Though i am a bit saddened to hear that you will have to start over.
I am jealous of your time and ability to work on thing. I feel like i can only hack slowly through everything so slowly.

Best of luck to you.
