This project is a 1987 Honda Spree.

#1.) complete over haul on the frame | disassembling, sandblasting all rust and powder coating
#2.) fabrication of an 87 Elite engine hanger/mount to fit a af16e engine in the spree frame.
#3.) relocation fabrication of the rear shock mount
#4.) body panel prep and painting
#5.) disassembling and building a AF16E engine at 72CC and geared
p.s I told myself I would take as many pictures as necessary for documenting on my build.

It has begun!

I'll be fabing up a new location for the rear mount. Also thinking about filling the open space with some metal plate.

--/>Surface rust<//--
So I was going to wire wheel the whole frame, but I said F that do it right. The frame will be sent out for sandblasting and powder coating in a few weeks once i get the funds. I've gotten a few estimates around the 100 dollar range.

Almost ready to get this shipped to the powder coating place

--/>Modified Stock 87 Elite Engine Mount<//--
I took 9.80MM from the very outter edge of the stock mount on both sides. Vdub on the board suggest 4mm on each side but i think that messurement is not including the inner part of the mount which sticks out. this is caused from the inner bushing.

I still need to bore the stock engine mount hole to except the larger size bolt for the 87 elite mount. Other than that, that's it for now.

More pictures and info as I go.

this is the inner bushing I was talking about. from the outer edge inward to the mount you'll need to take off 9.80mm of metal. this can be cut on a bandsaw, that has a sliding fence so you know the cut will be square. I'm sure you can cut it on a shopsaw, but it might create too much heat, and start to melt the inner rubber bushing.

Here is both 87 mounts side by side. the left side is the modified mount and the right is a unmolested stock mount.

I like the great pics of the custom mounts.
So this is going to be a 70cc af16e powered spree?

I'm going to go with the Polini Corsa 72cc, as I've heard excellent reviews from the folks on this board, and on the Hawaii board. I've had my fair share of nukage with the cheap Taiwan jugs in the past.

For the engine mount, I wanted to show as much detail and information about it to help other folks as well. The mount was one of the most critical thing on the bike. I'm going to reinforce the surrounding metal as Mookie did on his bike.

Thanks to veedubh20 on his enlightening information about engine mounts for the spree.

Hello,

Yes on early/later af16 main motor mount, need to cut 99mm. Just read and follow instruction.

88-93 mount only, , need a rubber moto 2 bushings 88-93 only to press in on dio moto.
94-01 moto mount, recommend to get dio moto .

but 87 mount only need to trim of 4mm each side, then you need 88-93 moto rubber bushing only to press in dio moto. -veedubh20

If I remember correctly I had to cut out the bar that lies underneath the mount also. It might be a good idea to reinforce those parts that you cut off. Make friends with your local welder or DIY if you got it like that...

There was this local muffler shop back in the day called American Muffler in San Diego, that was run by a guy named Don. He was one of the coolest old guys I knew. 12 Pack of MGD and I was set. Man the good old days.

Brad: I think i'm going to do what you did and reinforce the top of the bracket. I think the flat bar underneath should be okay. I want to use the factory kick stand.

the project is going to be put on hold for the next few days, as it's going to be Xmas. Also merry xmas guys!

trying to figure out how to do the rear shock mount setup. I'm thinking i'll be getting some c-channel and weld it right behind the battery box.

Happy New Years! Just got back from a little Mexico vacation. Guess What came in the mail from my connect!

DIO ZX AF35 Headset minus wiring. I'm either going to test this headset on the spree once it's put back together, or it's going on the Elite Build.

Are you going to use the stock blinkers and brake light combo when you put this scoot back together?

If not...how much for the 1987 blinker/stop light setup? I can not find one anywhere.

oh you wouldn't want mine, it's crap. i'll keep my eye out for you. check the Hawaiian forums under scooter parts. Every now and then someone will be selling Honda Eve or Eve Smile tail lights. Million times better.
