Chopped and Stretched: My 84 Spree build "Hardley Dangerous"

Post by lukeshoots »

First, Hi...
My name is Luke. I live in Wisconsin.
I got this farm bopper 84 from a guy I work with. His dad picked it up at an auction for $20. It had no oil tank so he just made it a mix gas machine and got it cooking.

He sold it to me for $50.
It looked like a standard spree. All plastic intact. Most signals and lights were smashed from being tossed around on the farm.
Since acquiring it I have been back and fourth on what to do with it.

Decision- I love chopped and bobbed motorcycles... I am actually in the search for donor bike to build my first bobber. But for now I have my spree. I am pumped to see where I can take this little thing.

Plans.
-Strip down, clean and paint frame and find a better way to run the electrical.
-new oil pump, tank, and battery.
-Get the thing running normal again on gas and oil seperately.
-Fashion a new exhaust.
-Chop the spring to lower the back end a few inches.
-Reformulate the seat position. (already done ghetto style)
-New headlight.
-new position for speedo
-Delete all plastic (this is still up in the air)
-New tires.
-create new way for foot placement (already done ghetto style)
I thank that about does it.
I was messing with it today after I finished my wife's extensive spring yardwork list.

What I did today-
- flipped the cargo stand around and turned it into a seat bracket
-Bolted in to the frame and attached the seat. This gives a cool stance to the bike but in it's current running state in tends to pickup the front end a lot after it boggs down and picks back up!
-Removed nearly all the plastic, lights, battery tray...
-cut up a metal pole and made temporary foot pegs.
-That's it for today. I am gonna get together with my brother (good reason to hang with him) to brainstorm this week on how to fashion it.
-Test fit and teardown, here we come?
More TC.

is that a spree engine?
It looks different somehow.
Is the kick start on backwards?

Greetings:

The belt cover sure looks like an AF05 Aero/SE50 engine. The crazy-long shock and engine angle supports that too. Beware of running it without the cooling shroud.

Yeah, kinda what I thought, this spree already has an enginge swap done to it.

The spree engine is the nq50. There is no way that is a nq50.

How fast does it go?

So far, it tops around 35. but I'm not 100% sure that the speedo is working correctly.
I really know nothing about sprees so I couldn't tell you if this was an OE nq50 or not. Are there any markings that I can look for anywhere on the motor before I start buying oil pumps and stuff that might not interchange.

That is definitely not a spree motor, which means you got an extra good deal on it.

You're gonna want to move the shock mount back on the frame and I second the point about riding w/o motor shroud.
