65 mph spree build

Post by B-Nasty »

let me start by posting this link in case everyone is not caught up...
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20784

well I am pretty much done with the build. It is pretty scary past half throttle bc the spree just doesnt feel stable at all; mainly in the front end. I know a big part is due to the sidecar pushing it from an akward angle but if I dont mash the throttles and keep them in sync its quite smooth. (yes there are two throttles and 2 kill switches). The side car is basically set up like a gokart. 6.5hp honda 4 stroke with a torque converter. this scooter does wheelies like its nothing (and it must look funny seeing a scooter with a sidecar doing wheelies around town). I dont have any pics of the frame being welded b/c i didnt have a camera. Most of the other pics I took while building it were taken with my phone cam so sorry for the crappy resolution. ill start with these pics

here is the second throttle and kill switch. The sidecar is detachable from the scooter and only takes a few minutes to remove. Also the entire body of the sidecar pulls off its frame so its super easy to work on.

Dangerous :surprise:

I will give you props for creativity ....but I would never get in to that death trap. :nervous:

So does it go 65mph? :jack:

How does the dual throttle thing work?

it has the power and gearing to do 65 but I am not brave enough for that yet. I have been considering putting it on a dyno to prove its capable (in terms of power and gearing). dual throttles work great b/c depending on if the sidecar is empty or has a passenger you can adjust.

Some more info regarding build cost.
scooter-$75 (blown motor)
big bore kit- $120
side car (metal, wood, hardware, wheel, axle, bearings etc)- roughly $200

I already had the other motor and torque converter so I did this entire project for around 400.

Yes......the undetectable "power adder"

Can a person actually ride in the side car?

Does the side car wheel have brakes?

I never said power adder....I said "power source"
:thumbwink:

ya it works great with a passenger and the sidecar does not have brakes but it stops great with just the spree brakes. I was anticipating a problem with braking but it works great as is

When this contraption is "doing wheelies like nothing" What wheels come off the ground?

It it really a wheelie, or does it just tip slightly back and to the left?
In his previous BS post B-Nasty wrote:well I got the hardest part done last night. Spent about 6 hours working on it. Waiting for a few more parts then it will be ready. I am pretty nervous about doing 65 on a spree...I just dont think it will be stable at that speed.

but I cant wait to prove yall wrong
I still can't wait for you to prove us all wrong :eyeroll:

I would be willing to bet that the top speed has not increased at all from this side car mod.

it pulls the front scooter wheel off the ground and slams the back of the sidecar frame in the ground...its not just a tilting thing.

how much are you "willing to bet"?

Willing to bet That this setup will not add any top speed (above 35mph)
Willing to bet That this setup will never reach 65mph
Willing to bet That it will not be as fast as my scooter (top speed)
Willing to bet That it would never beat any of my scooters in a race.

Pick one. :hi:

??? How does the extra power from the 3rd wheel make it wheelie without tilting?

The side car wheel is in the middle and to the side of the other 2 wheels.

Doesn't the rear wheel stop it from wheelies?

I simply must see some video of this thing in action

what happens when only one throttle is applied?

Is there any suspension on the side car? Can you lean into corners at all?

If you lean too far right will the side car lift?

Even if the sidecar can go 65, the stock gears in the 2stroke will act as a speed limiter. You can only turn so many rpm before you just can't get any more air through the engine. At that point the other engine will be dragged down by the "main" engine. I think it looks fun, dangerous, and incapable of 65mph.

Kudos for creativity though. I'd love to try some doughnuts on that thing  .
