NQ50 build , nothing to lose , heaps to gain

I hope I have figured this posting business out.

Here is my current project NQ50

She has had a long hard life by the looks of it, I think the wrist pin clip came out and the clip lodged itself against the bore and piston, the groove is about 1.5mm deep. the piston is already 2mm oversize so there is no salvation there





The fairings are all busted up as well with some messy Fibre Glass repairs, will post pics of them later

Here is a quick pick of my last project, I didnt take any photos of the build (BIG REGRET), it was in a similar state.

I have made a bit of progress with this bike, have worked on it for the last 2 weeks, just need to make time to post it all.

Just finished a round of Fibre Glassing, I cant get the resin off my hands, the gloves ripped.

Anyways....

The first thing I made was the engine mount, not going to post picks as it looks real rough.
When I had it tack welded together she was bang on, but then when fully welded it must have warped, it was out by 0.35mm, made the wheel out by about 20mm at the other end garr..., but persistence prevailed 3rd times a charm, cut and re-welded twice. she sits nice now

the second thing on the agenda was the front brakes and forks



This was off a dio ZX, using a pipe cutter I cut 112mm out of the centre of the shaft, spun the shaft around 180 degrees to suit the standard spree/nifty fifty handle bars. should note that I also placed a bar in the middle of the shaft (17.4mm I think), had to go see a friend with a workshop press and pressed it in, also before I pressed in the bar I ground the shaft ends where they were to meet so that there would be little channels for the welds to sink into when they were pressed together.

End result of that



I was contemplating removing the bottom bearing race and placing a pipe around the shaft approx 20mm, then placing the race back on as to lower the shock tree and give better fairing clearance, decided not to though as thought it would raise the ride height too high and I would still need to cut the fairings anyway

Yea its an AF18E, was out of a DIO ZX

Ok, so engine mounted, forks and brakes mounted.

Next thing to establish, ride height.

I had 2 rear shocks in my garage to use, a stock one and a DIO ZX one.
I spent a good couple of hours eyeballing with this, was using multiple bits and bobs to prop space and locate the mounting positions, the end I found only one position that looked good and allowed me to keep the oil tank and not have the bike riding high.









And the shock used (temporarily, need to find a better one) is the Nifty Fifty shock with Dio shock base.
The Dio shock is about an inch longer than the Nifty Fifty and the Dio shock base is offset for better wheel clearance, it works well, the shock is on a good angle and is straight at the mounting points.

Looks great so far, i really want to do the disc brake swap on my Eve you may want to use the longer dio shock to have more clearance between the rear tire and the turn signal assembly especially when you hit bumps. I had to cut mine even with the longer shock

Now for my favourite piece of the build so far, the centre stand on this was naft, the the pivot shaft that it rotates on had worn almost through the stand and the frame, the cross bar that it sits against has almost broken off, looks like an elephant had sat on it, hence in the first pic its only just supporting the bike, it wanted to fall over if parked on a slight angle, with the new engine mounted it wouldn't kick up properly, would hit the engine and sit about 3inches from the ground.

Then it it will be pulled down again so I can de-rust and paint frame, not sure if I have finished welding or cutting extra bits on to it or for it

cant say I have heard of it, dam... and here I thought it was unique-ish, are there a few people with this???

My fairings are calling me, I dont like the way they are looking at the moment, I chose a bad cut style on the back for the muffler and so on, I will figure somethin out.

If i am not mistaken cf posh is the company that makes that stand but its not made specifically for the spree or anything. I havent seen anyone fab a mount you are the first I thought about getting a stand just like that on several occassions I think it is made for scooters that already have a place for a kickstand, looks kewl as s***

Nice build so far. I love those little nifty face and rear tails. Diggin the side stand too. If I recall right the pal side stand fits the spree/nifty/(eve)pax.

I wish it was summer here in the states.

unfortunately the plastic mounts to hold the headlight fairings together is broken, the panels were held together by insulation tape and the panels hold the light in place.

Progress on this will slow down a bit now, Im back at work doing long hours.
