Thanks quen!

What does the center large spring do exactly on the clutch spring kits? I completey get the 3 smaller springs which hold the clutch shoes tighter requiring higher rpms before the engage the clutch bell. But the only thing I have come up with on the center spring is it must have a bit more tension also to help prevent belt slip because maybe a stock one would since it was designed for a less agressive engagement. Help me out please. Thanks.

the center spring's job is to keep tension on the belt, if the spring is worn out, that'll cause the belt to have too much slack and remain in a higher gear too long. When the center spring is working properly, it'll allow the belt to be drawn in the pulley for a higher gear, once you apply torque (load) by jumping on the throttle for hard acceleration or encounter a hill, this causes the belt to pull (twist) on the moving plate on the torque drive assembly, which will force the pulley together along with the center spring's help to make the belt ride higher giving you a lower gear. Once you let off the throttle or level out on even ground, the belt stops pulling on the torque plate allowing it to relax, compressing the center spring, which twists the torque plate in the other direction to separate the pulley halves to allow the belt to be drawn in for a higher gear.

Are you just running the stock oil pump?

I would strongly recommend premixing an oz or two in the tank if you insist on using the stock pump.

And also zip tie the oil pump on full. :surprise:

Once your overall ratio is between 50:1 - 32:1 then you can start to play with jets.

The 43mm crank is better than the 44mm :imo: .........easier to get the piston to clear the ports, and runs cooler because of the lower compression.

Thanks for the concern traffic, that would suck to burn up a new piston.. I did actually remove the oil tank and it will probably never go back on unless I do the spare auxillary fuel cell deal with it. For now I have a 28-1 pre-mix with premium fuel and lucas semi-synthetic oil.

*Yes bear I know premium might not be necessary but I use it because it makes me feel good inside :thumbwink:

*evil 1 thanks that was an awesome desciption! Just what I needed to understand. Aloha, I wish I had your island weather here, I have to wear a snomobile suite just to take a cruz at night. lol

At this level of scooter modding , premium fuel is needed.

What was your compression at?

Where did I say anything about fuel. I mentioned the round slide carb is all.

Which lucas oil are you using?

In this picture the oil pump looks like it is still in ?

If you still have the oil pump installed you NEED to block off the in/out ports.

If you do not block the oil ports it will cause an air leak.

Bear it was in a different thread, I can dig it up later. It was not intended to be a stab.

*traffic it is the smokeless semi sythetic. But in the ratio I have it does smoke. d*** thanks for the heads up on blocking those oil pump ports. I will do this now.

I was cruizing just now on the road at about between 20-35 mph. When I was going down hill the motor shut off, and the scooter smelt like burnt rubber. This may have been the smell of the rear tire because it did skid for about a foot then started to roll again. I hope to * that is not what a seize feels like. Now I am riding with the belt cover off, I removed it to inspect the belt and it appears to be fine. Any Ideas? The scooter was warmed up then I was just cruizing varying the speed between 20-35mph which it felt just fine doing about 1/2 throttle or so. then that happened.

I used the electric starter to see if it would turn over, it turned over just fine but did not start, so I check the basics and saw the kill switch was on... Flipped it back to run and it purred like a kitten once again! With all this being said, I dont know if I subconciously engaged the kill switch when the motor died or if I some how bumped it while riding thus killing the motor and me looking like an idiot. This is possible but not likely. Thanks for the insight guys

*Bear this is what I was getting at about the premium thing. I was just thinking about this when I was describing what fuel mix I was doing on my build.

Sounds like you just had your first soft seize. :surprise:

Try not to do that again :nervous:

Plug those ports for sure, that could cause it to run lean.
