Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

Hey all, my name is Kaps and this is my first scooter build/re-build.
I got a 1985 Honda Aero 50 for free of craigslist, not running, no keys. The story was that the guy got it brand new in '85, Drove it for three years, sometime in the forth year of school the bike died and it just sat at his parents house untouched FOR THE NEXT 21 YEARS!!! I didn't really have plans other than to swap in a dio motor from another scooter i got free but decided against it. this one was for the g/f so keeping it stock would keep the price down and i could sell the dio to fund the project. (it turned out to be in WAY worse shape) Got a few bad surprises during the teardown due to giant spiders but other than that, nothing too crazy. Found bad crankshaft bearings to be the main culprit which also damaged the piston head, variation and some other bits. replaced the bad parts, cleaned out all the old gas/oil and put it back together with new gaskets and seals.... voila! Then i touched up all the old looking chrome bits with gloss black acrylic polymer engine enamel and spray on bed liner. I hated the flat look of the bed liner though so i created the splattered/textured look by pressing the spray tip down just a little. i couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. new ignition, (the old one was popping fuzes for some reason) new tires, new led lights and new sockets so the turn signals stay on as running lights have all been installed. also buffed and waxed the body panels there is a few other cool trick things i did but i'll let you pick them out. questions, comments and criticisms are welcome. Where'd you install the LED lights?

I put led lights in all the turn signals and the rear brake light, followed the instructions here to make them into running lights:

Not a huge difference but i'm sure it helps with energy consumption.

oh yea, the spider? the one in the pic was literally a foot from my face when the cover came off. not even joking when i tell you i almost fell off of my milk crate and was too shocked to make a sound! AND as far as the spider was concerned it was not moving. (had to go get a hair dryer and blow it out of the engine lol, didn't kill it either.) On the ground stretched out it was big enough to cover the top of a can of pop! There was another one the same size guarding the original operating manual in the glove box and the remains of quite a few lovers/combatants inside the scooter as well. hands down the worst part of the whole experience was cleaning up the spider webs which for some reason makes me gag and dry heave like somebody with a bad hangover....

My first Aero was held together mostly with spider-webs. That one looks like a brown recluse. Kill it immediately if you see another one. Its bite makes a really nasty wound if it should get you. The little web packages contain eggs/babies, so make sure to destroy them too unless you want your workshop infested. They're hard to kill with chemicals.

I appreciate the advice....... But i live on the edge of a Rainforest on a Mountain Range. (Vancouver B.C) I'd have no time to build scooters if I were to try to kill all the insane insect/wildlife around me! plus I did all the tear down outside and don't have a shop soooo, not too worried. Big homie didn't bite my face off, I returned the favor. Live and let live.

Wow.....! That looks great. Can you tell me what was painted with what, I'd like to mimic that.

EDIT: Did you paint the kick panel with the glovebox black first, and then the liner? That looks so good. haha!

Awesome score, and a great job . Honestly, I never liked the front panels of an Aero, but we all know how fast my thoughts WILL change if ever I acquire one. Rockin bike brah . Let us know when you do the swap.
