2001 Elite 50

Post by stl450rider »

Just picked up my first elite on sunday. Im already addicted and havent started yet  I de-restricted it, waiting to pick up a bigger main jet tomorrow. Right now top speed is about 35, but it has a 68 main so I have not been riding it much. Keli variator (9g rollers) is in the mail from Daywot, should be here wednesday ish. Im hoping to break 40 with the variator and bigger jet. One question I have; will just the variator and rollers make a difference with the stock ramp plate? The stock rollers are shot and have 2-3 flat spots on each one. Here are a couple pics. It needs some tlc, but I picked it up for 300$ so no complaints. Im semi-new to the scooter world so any help/info is appreciated. Thanks
The front piece is cracked pretty bad

congrats on your new (to you) ride. =) :thumbwink:
yes a new variator and rollers will make a difference, even with the stock ramp plate.

what is your budget like? (no need to answer, just need to think about it)
you can find a replacement front piece on ebay or perhaps another member might have one (just post on the for sale/wanted section)
If you want to do the work yourself, there are repair threads on this forum that would give you some suggestions and techniques that might be useful to you.

thanks for sharing pics, that underglow is cool! :thumbwink:

Looks like you did good. New seat cover, a little cosmetic work and the new variator will get you a real nice 40 - 45 mph scooter with lots of possibilities as the addiction grows.

Might be worth a good look at the belt if the rollers are that worn. It's a good time to replace it while you're in there changing out the variator. Specs are in the service manual.

Well I got a 82 main jet in and punched the second tab out of the airbox cover. Absolutely no diffference from a 68 speed wise. I ordered my variator with express shipping from daywot on sunday, was supposed to be here between tuesday and yesterday, still no show :*: Oh well, hopefully it shows up tomorrw. Im picking up another toy tonight..03 Aprilia sr50 with 400 miles on it. Not a honda, I know, but im getting a good deal on it so I cant pass it up. I'll update this as soon as my parts come in.

Its awesome. I think it may have the stock restricted ECU, but Im not sure. Honestly, going uphill, the SR50 is not much faster than my elite. On flat ground, its faster by about 5-10 mph. Downhill, game over, I had the SR up to 63 earlier and it handles great. Brembo brakes +13 inch tires= AWESOME :ndance: But I still love the elite.

CVT. Depending on the year, it is a minarelli or a newer ditech. I don't think the morini models ever made it stateside.

So far I love it. Pulled the variator off today to check out the rollers, two of them were sideways and out of place, holding the ramp plate open. Fixed that and now it cruises easy at 45. Got to 53ish on GPS on flat ground. Its a dog going up big hills though.

Got the variator and rollers in the Elite, wow what a difference! I did that, and put a 85 main jet in (had a 68) and top speed went from about 35 to 45. It will get close to 47mph on a downhill.

Greetings:

Nice job getting this S a-Sorted out! 45 MPH is robust for an all-stock motor with stock gears. There's a little more speed available with 9:1 gears with little adverse effect on the take-off. If you plan to mod the engine, consider taller gears than that.

No, just the belt cover, clutch (easier if you remove the outer half drive sheaves to slack the belt), 6ish bolts and the rear wheel axle nut. The oil will come out of the transmission so be prepared.
