My 85 AERO 50 "ERRL"

Post by curtis966 »

Just picked up my first Honda a couple days ago, I got a 1985 Honda Aero 50, Shes a bute in overall good condition obvious wear and tear but that's what im looking for paint matches everywhere, front plastics in great condition original paint, stickers, and hard where, back panels not bad couple cracks/scrapes red but not original no stickers (yet), both front and side cubbys in working order with locks, cracked euro rear light pane (to be replaced soon),seat good but not stock and doesnt latch, Carb has been jetted out and tuned up,air box has like 5 holes only 2 uncovered( going to get a new one so it looks cleaner), big find that came on her is a perfect condition Malossi exhaust very hard to find these days i believe, 90/90 rear tire in perfect condition but the rims a little dented along the edge so i want to replace it with a Metro rear wheel as soon as i find one, with or without tire cause i can reuse this one, i have a nice black powder coated rim with a nice sport tire on its way courtesy of another member here to replace my bent one, Speedos missing the cable ( one on the way), gas gauge not working ( one of the resisters was broken off the gauge under the speedo cluster possibly the problem?), oil gauge broke( and on its way)the light reads, all lights and blinkers intact( front left to be replaced) has an 86' kick start plate which is nice, came with ignition but no keys, took it off to ride her can i just get keys or do i need a whole new ignition? first take or her very fast, great excelleration idk top speed yet, pulls away from my buddy doing 34 on his gonna need to replace the rear brake cable but they work, fronts are great, came with an extra set of shoes idk for front or rear. im looking to do performance upgrades and open to all coments and sugestions.

what i plan to do

Air Filters if possable? K&N or any thing or just stay stock and drill holes?
Ruckus Variator
high speed pully
new rollers prolly around 8-9 gram
clutch spring 1k or 1500k?
added a power outlet in the front glove box along with a light with switch for at night.
lights worked but the power to them didn't so i added a switch for that to
a side kick stand prolly i dont like how the under one hangs
Im picking up some stock stickers along with some malossi ones and a name badge

Like i said im open to every ones ideas i like speed!
And if im doing anything wrong like with pics and s*** just let me know new to this
THANKS

That air box is a problem waiting to destroy your engine.

I figured as much it's got like 6 large holes in it. I have a parts order I'm taking up to my honda dealer. A new cover is on it.

Anyone know if there are any ways to put the small K&N air filters on? Or I guess is it worth it? I'm sure it looks cool but I would rather have better performer of course.

The same problem applies to the K&N as does to the big holes in your present airbox. They lean out the engine leading to a melted piston unless you rejet the carb. These are not uncaring, tolerant 4 strokes, these are finely tuned hi-performance engine systems and unless you know what you are doing you will hurt performance or destroy your engine making willy nilly changes.

You can get to 45 mph with this scooter with minor changes that do not include getting rid of the stock airbox.

Ok so when I get my new cover I don't want any holes? The person I bought it from put a larger main jet in. I didn't ask what size he alson said it runs lean so that makes sense. I got a big bore kit as well came with it not installed. I think he said it was a 63cc. Think it's worth installing? I have a picture of it all I post later. Can't post pics from my phone.

Im either going to go with a ruckus variator or a high speed pulley an variator kit for vtcycles.

Ok so I want to go with a metro rear rim but idk exactly how the process works? ive read a couple of the mods but i have a few questions before i go for it.

Does the metro rear rim bolt right on?

Do i have to use the metro brakes? or can i just use my stock aero brakes?

And do i need to buy a special tire for the tubless mount or can i reuse the 90/90 tubed tire i have on my stock aero rim?

Thanks Guys

The met rear rim will bolt on with a aero brake pads and yes the 90/90 tire is good tube or tubeless. I would definately install the metrakit I dont even think you can buy those anymore :D Especially with the malossi wild lion you should have great low and midrange not sure about topspeed. I would consider trying a ruckus variator too :D No holes in the airbox. If you can find a arreche 17.5mm carb it will bolt to the stock manifold then you can change pilot and main so you know it is not lean. if you install the metrakit you should consider a CHT gauge so you can monitor temeratures

Thanks for the help, looks like im gonna be able to snag a time for about 40 so that's taken care of. Does the metro kit bolt right on? I know nothing when it comes to real engine tweeks. I have been looking into carbs, I think I wanna see how quick I can get it before I jump into it. The variator is next on my list I think along with some new rollers maybe around 8.5 grams.

As far as I know the metrakit is bolt on considering the honda vision is the equivalent of the early 88-93 elite sa50 with afo5e variated engine. That being said you have to heat cycle it and run it easy without full throttle till the rings are nice and seated etc you cant just bolt it on and fly

Ok I think im ready to get the MetraKit Installled. Its a 65cc kit im told i think its right. ive been reading that its plenty easy install and a very good add on for my pipe. I could definitely use some advice on the install just so i know im doing it right. also anyone have any experence with this kit? ive been seeing some things and hoping they are true 50-55? ive heard that i need to hbave the piston milled or some times i can just use thicker gaskets?

and Does it look like im missing any parts other than a gasket? im just gonna fresh ones anyways? just oem sizes?

I need to get new gaskets before I can install the MetraKit. I don't know where to find these nor can i find much information about the kit let alone the gaskets.
Anybody have any idea?

Also Im looking at a couple other things.

Ignition. i know its not the exact one but i have the wiring kit and this ones cheaper. Will be looking on here as well for one if anybody comes across one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-NC-50-C-A ... 1555wt_932

Ignition coil. Can i use this? i mainly just like the looks but i could use a replacement to prolly.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/130720287607?ss ... 1088wt_932

Trail Tech Guages
Defiantly a future upgrade as long as it will work. Looks like it will to me but im not expert

Trail Tech more pics of the hardware on eBay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380448821937?ss ... 1423.l2649

Variator. I like this one but im not sure if it fits my 85'. If not ill just go with the ruckus variator.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110638917265?ss ... 2995wt_802

Thanks for any Feedback Its much appreciated

well if its anything like the stock gasket, its just made out of normal gasket material, not metal or ring enforced.

ill bet you could just go to the auto store get some gasket sheets, trace its outline , and cut it out useing a razor and hole punch.

idk how you would find a gasket for that without a kit attached to it.

a stock base gasket should work fine. You dont need to mill the piston or anything but you may want to consider having the stock head milled to the size of the bore kit
