well it started as a restoration then evolved into a swap it's not moving very quickly but its this thread...Tyler VR wrote:Thanks!refl3x wrote:This is really cool man I'm swapping an elite 125 motor into an '86 aero 50 frame. I'm at about the same place you are, figuring out how I'm going to mount the engine/ suspension. Ill keep an eye on this one!
That sounds like a crazy swap your doing, good luck! Make sure to take some pics and maybe start a build thread, I'm sure people would enjoy seeing that.

Thanks, but nothing is really together yet. So far it's just been a lot of planning and preparation, I've been taking my time. This weekend I'm hoping to get the mounting welded.patthesoundguy wrote:Man that thing is really comming together, looks great

Getting the final alignment done, everything is prepped for welding. The spacer pipe with the set screws has already been fully welded inside and out to just the spree frame. Once it's all aligned I'll tact weld it to the elite frame and tact weld the plating too, remove the engine and weld the rest.
Re: Spree Engine Swap: Honda Elite CH80 onto Spree
Got the motor mount welding done, turned out good. Did some plates on the bottom too.
Re: Spree Engine Swap: Honda Elite CH80 onto Spree
Setting up to do the spring mount.

I was thinking about starting the wiring but I figured I should get the front fork swap done first, starting that now...
Re: Spree Engine Swap: Honda Elite CH80 onto Spree
Cut off the shafts of the spree and elite forks. I need find a steel pipe that fits in the center of the shafts.

Re: Spree Engine Swap: Honda Elite CH80 onto Spree
The ch80 bottom bearing race will not fit the spree tube.
stem/fork swaps are easy on 50cc elites to spree, because the top and bottom race are the same size.
You may need to machine an adaptor to make it fit.

Yup, it's different. Shaft size is bigger and the bearing race is a little larger too. I looked at using the bottom elite collar but it won't fit spree frame. The bearing balls are the same size as a spree(5/32) and both use 55 according to the parts catalog.Trafficjamz wrote:The ch80 bottom bearing race will not fit the spree tube.

I made the aero 125 forks fit on my other spree, which are a lot bigger and use larger bearing balls. So I plan on making it work somehow.
Re: Spree Engine Swap: Honda Elite CH80 onto Spree
Test fitting with a pipe down the center, going to drill through it and put pins above and below the weld.
Re: Spree Engine Swap: Honda Elite CH80 onto Spree
Here's the pin through the shafts before I welded over them.
