Flash 6: Deepinnaharta Freeway Cruiser

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Hi-Po MHR top end arrived from RedEftPerformance, along with vaunted Eye-Tally-Yan Simioni exhaust. This pipe is something of a Dark Horse here on the Forum - nobody seems to have reported on it before. Perfect for intrepid Wheelman. The Revered Baka-san uses an MHR and his many tweaking tricks to reach ridiculous speeds and Podium finishes in the Great Northwest racetracks - good enough for me.

Prepping for this Freeway Flyer means tall 6.8:1 secondary gears. Maybe too-tall, but I'm keeping the 7.5s that work well enough with the Corsa and Malossi Iron cylinder on Flash 5.

That's a cleaned-up cover and wheel axle from DownSouthDio - ready to bolt-on. (And bolt-off if they're too tall...)Bakaracer says 8:1 is all you need, and he may be right if you have stratospheric RPM capability. The Corsa got to 71MPH and change, but I think it ran out of power. Still a few mm of variator travel. But maybe the MHR has better torque?

I have to remind myself how painless it can be to install bearings:
1. Heat oven to 350F.
2. Put Bearings and seals in Deep freeze.
3. Light dab of oil on the bearing edges.
4. Use a steady hand to keep the bearing square in the socket.
5. Watch it sizzle a little and drop without persuasion spontaneously to the bottom.
6. Tap it twice with a big socket and listen for sound of seated bearings.
7. Rejoice.

Wheelman those gears will strain your motor and cause premature wear end of story.

Id like to nay say on a comment, 18k KM on my zx engine with 6.89s and MHR still at 133 psi as of last week. Nothing bad to report at all yet. Its all about the trans set up for the take off that will alleviate any concerns of strain. Set up your trans and clutch right and youll be fine. Try to dispute real world proof rather than theory all you want, but I guess I built mine right.

Greetings:

Strain my motor?! And that's the end of the story!?! Heavens to Betsy!!

Sinceriously, the motor don't know what's going on astern of the belt. I tuned the Corsa variator to wind to about 10K with the throttle wide open. Acceleration after 10 mph didn't seem to change much, and top speed rose considerably when I went from 7.97s to 7.58s. I believe the ONLY issues with too-tall gears are the 0-to-whenever the clutch engages and (if the engine lacks power...) how much variator travel goes unused. Tall gearing and Hawaiian hills are responsible for the highest top speeds, methinks. I don't think the engine "strains" any more or less due to gearing. Maybe someone can explain that better?

Greetings:

Prepping for the engine pull last night when I came to the sad realization that my regular job wouldn't get done if I spent three hours bolting on my new top end:

That's the Simioni pipe you axt-ed about. RedEft still has some last time I heard. I liked the PG Long, but not its propensity to rattle itself apart after 18 months of Deepinnaharta Street abuse. Scorpions and Arrows might be nice, but I need the rest of my liver. We'll see how this one performs once I can get an evening to assemble.

Greetings:

Hope-for and Outcomes are very different things. The Corsa/PG Short (Flash 3.26) got up to 71+. I hope the MHR can do at least as well. TreatLand.TV sells the Simioni for $225+(Expensive) Shipping last time I looked. RedEft can do a bit better, methinks. Why not PM him?

Oh, and I didn't measure the pipe dimensions, but remember remarking that it seemed to match the MHR exhaust port diameter pretty well.

6.8 is to much gearing for that size motor. I don't even run 7to1 on my 120cc setup. The guys in taiwan that race don't rin 7to1. Its all about efficiency. Over gear a small motor that doesn't make that much torque, your just wasting the the rpm the motor puts out. Again wheel I explained that with your 7.58 you had reving at 10.3k you only went what 71 at most? You should be near 80 . I went 85 with my 7.58 gears in that race video I posted on the big track. Again your not making enough power to make full use of those gears. If your not gaining at least another 8-10mph more than what your 7.58 was doing, that's proof that gearing is not efficient for your setup. The less strain you put on the motor to turn the gears the faster you get to the topspeed to the gearing and max rpm the setup should do that IF you have the power and torque to get there
Nothing like getting stroked!

Tru72 had an arnada with a nickle sil mini stroker and 9:1 gears that went over 70. Your tuning is what gets you to free way speeds. If you cant get past 70 with those 7.58 gears then something is wrong.

The 7.58 gearing is the limit any taller and you will strain your motor and unless you have a hill it wont help your top speed much

Build a stroker if you wanna use those gears so bad haha. Theory and math are everything. Your real stubborn wheelman why cant you take advise from others.

Greetings:

On the contrary, I'm listening carefully.
So Bakaracer, the too-tall gearing increases belt slip, for example? Doing the math, the RPM is there - 10.5 with the Corsa at one point - but the GPS says 71. The only non-mechanically fixed link in the chain between the crank and the axle is the belt. Maybe that's bleeding too much? In that case I need to reduce drag. Hello, Nutri-System?
