Greetings

Currently using 55/150. The 150 might be a bit fat. Power feels good up through the midrange, but fades a little beyond 9K. Top temp lately was below 370. Remember this was a 165PSI setup with AvGas. So far so good.

Im telling you the taller gears do NOT hold it back at all, set up your trans for take off and youll be great. I would do a leak down test again if you could use that big of a pilot on the 24. I ran an air horn for a few races against friends and still didnt get over a 48 pilot. I can see the people chiming in "ohhhh it wont work, booo hisssss, I cant do it so its not possible" but try it and see for yourself. 5-6 bolts and swapped.

My zx50 engine (sc10a) with 12 inch tires and sub 7 gearing destroys the kids with built minas around here off the line and on top, they start to catch up at first then run out of breath, I bought 3 mina engines just to build them and see what I get in various stages and builds but I have a feeling the honda is still going to be tops as it currently is already. Well see what 3 grand in parts will yield.

Ah, but you're behind on the Flash news. The carb's an "accidental" 28. I ordered a 26 but decided to keep this one and try it out. All the cool Island kids are doin' it...

Sad story, or maybe not.
Thinking the 24 was holding power back a little, I ordered trusty 26mm OKO. Package arrived, invoice correct but...
4OKO28for26[1].jpg
the Carb's a wee bit bigger than planned.

I thought about sending it back but decided now I finally get to follow the advice of countless Hawai'ian brothers who proclaim "28 OKO and PG Long - FTW".

I'd been running a suspiciously big 52 Pilot in the 24. Seemed fine, no 4 stroking and kept the temps down running ~40 mph. I did worry I might have an air leak to need that big in a 24, but I've checked and rechecked with no sign. Running a 125 main in the 24 with decent top end.

So, what do I start with in the 28? I put in a 58/150 but haven't installed the carb yet. If anyone has a suggestion or if this seems WAAY wrong, please advise.
Ive been running a suspiciously big 52 pilot in the 24...

Yeah, that's the thing about different setups. Unique to my ride are the MHR/Stuffer Malossi crank and whopping 165 PSI setup compression. The 24 seemed to like the 52, and maybe it would've been better with a 50 or 48, but there's too much invested to lean it out if it's running acceptably well already.

I fully understand wanting to protect the investment, I have the same set up on one of my engines as well, keith is a great seller. What does the piston look like? Carbon build up doesnt take too long usually if its too rich and these pistons melt like butter too lean.

Ashamed to say I haven't pulled the head off since assembly. Compression check should tell the tale, and I may get to that next week. Baseline was 165 with copious assembly Motul 800 Syn slathering.

If its ran hot more than once I would be careful taking off the head on the MHR, that ring can become one with the cylinder, take off your bucket and remove the plug and peer into its tiny hole at top dead center.

I'm bad about noting miles, but the hour meter says 4. Figure about 100 or so.

Greetings:

Simioni is louder than stock, for sure, but acceptable to me. It can idle quietly in the Casa parking lot at 07:00 without disturbing touchy neighbors. The PG family commands attention from the next State, while the Simioni only reaches across the County line.

Back to the First Love

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

I believe I've wrung all I can from the MHR/Malossi Crank combination. The 28mm OKO pushed top speed to around 60, but there's a definite drop of Oomph as the revs climb above 9K, and I've begun to suspect it's the Simioni exhaust holding up the proceedings. From its size and shapes, it Looks like a better match for smaller-displacement and/or lower-RPM builds like the M'Arn or Polini Cortessa "Sport" cylinders. Wish I'd had it when the Iron was crowning Flash 5.

Anyway, Scorpion exhausts aren't exactly falling from the trees around Casa Wheelman. I called the 808 number suggested by a Forumista without response. Finally Steve from VT shows up with a gross of Shorts and Longs on fEeBay, so a week later...

...here we are.

As Tru suggested, the Short seems to be pretty well-matched to high-revving 72s. The Corsa busted 70 on the GPS with one, and my hope is that the MHR will match that or more. I like the new stainless-looking finish on this example. Welds seem to be nicer too. Not too expensive, and the best part is, It's Here. I haven't shut the door on the Scorpion option, once a few more parts sell... But I'll be scrutinizing its performance carefully if I get one before I let go of a PG Short again.
