My first elite build

Post by bfowler »

Well after about a year of browsing these forums and reading and trying to learn all that I possibly can, I think it's time for me to fix my cruddy scooter and get it running strong. I ordered lots of parts and I am going to try to take lots of pictures through out this build. Hopefully this can help future builders out there that are probably just as nervous as I am to get started on my first ever build. Prior to these forums, I had absolutely no knowledge about scooters or anything mechanical so these forums have really really taught me a lot and I'd just like to say thank you!

Got some work done today and took some pictures. More to come tomorrow.
Here's the engine sitting on my bedroom floor.
Image
Here's it after removing the left side cover.
Image
Here's my tusk clutch holding tool that I used to remove the clutch and variator
Image
Similar to what the manual said, I placed the tusk clutch holding tool on the stator/flywheel side and used it to keep the engine from turning over.
Image
Image
Was eager to take off the oil pump and insert the oil plug but like an idiot I forgot to put hondabond around the plug to keep it in place. I'm going to go to the store tomorrow to get some hondabond and some washers to make sure the plug is secure. As you can see, the plug isn't sitting flush with the engine. Instead it's actually pressed about 2mm past the case. Any tips on removing the plug so I can add some loctite to it?
Image
Took off the old head and piston. Surprisingly they looked pretty good except for the burn marks (possibly just carbon?) on the piston.
Image
Accidentally broke a piston ring like a goof
Image
Here's some possible problems I saw when inspecting the bore. I noticed some scratches and scores on the engine case. You can see them on the far left. Could these possibly pose a problem? And also, on the crank it looks as though some of it has been scratched off. Idk if that's just the design or if it's damaged? Referring to the middle of the crank where's the black and silver meet. It looks a little curved rather than a straight line and I'm not sure if that's just the normal look of it?
Image

That's all for today. Hopefully someone can chime in with some answers. Ill post more tomorrow after I get more stuff done.

screw a bolt into the hole in the center of the plug and use some pliers to pull it out. Those marks are fine they have been there from new and your crank looks fine

Hmmmmm I'm not too sure if I want to try my hand at porting. It's probably the one area that isn't really covered here on the forums. Maybe if someone could give me some tips and if I feel comfortable enough then ill try it out and buy a Dremel.

I wouldn't have to split the case if I port the intake right? I can just spray some water in the case and get the little pieces of the bore out?

I've done it, like graphite9 says, seal it up well I put the shop vac hose in behind and all of the chips got sucked right up making it real safe.

Hmmmmmmmm is it worth the hassle? If I'm gonna buy a Dremel then Id probably want to do some porting to the corsa. Idk if its worth buying a Dremel just to open the intake ports
