1988 Elite SA50 with Aero 80cc swap and trailer!

Post by ScooterTweaks »

Heeelllooooo everyone! I have been away for some time working on everyone elses bikes but mine... It's about time to work on a few projects of my own again and one is the mentioned above: 1988 SA50 for $100 with title not wrecked, needs work for sure but is solid, runs and drives, will get Met front forks with rim and brakes, Aero 80 swap tuned with CR80 Weisco piston, custom pipe, 19mm delorto, full trans, new tires, and custom one wheel trailer.

I have everything to start the journey and already have the bike up on the work bench. Here is where things get interesting:

I have looked quite a bit and am thinking that the Aero 80 engine shares a lot with other 100cc engines Honda produced and sold under different names like Daelim. If that's the case then there are cylinder options etc. I also want to see about fitting a stroker Dio crank. Seeing how the cases are already bigger I don't feel there is a lot of work to do the job. Get the correct size bearings etc and seals and should be good to go. I don't see the cases being too much wider so I don't think that's a problem. What I need and or want from the community here is specs on the dio crank. Total length, diameter, shaft lengths per side, splined areas etc etc etc. Or if anyone has one that is just toooooasted then I would be happy to pay for shipping to me to use as a mock up etc. I wouldn't mind having a 125cc stroker system and have the torque. Don't care for this one to be an out of control heaven revving beast!

The trailer: a simple aluminium trailer with a cargo box and singe wheel. I have the materials and mock scratch plans.

So if anyone has some info to pass my way via the dio crank or has one in tact but just junk that I can have for mock up please send it my way!

Thanks in advance to all that offer some info and goodies!

I'll supply pics as progress is made.

Later!

Well, slight changes... Decided to go Elite 250 swap into my SA50 for pulling the trailer. The trailer will be a nice flat, semi long cargo trailer for camping etc etc but will pull another scooter: 1984 Spree with 2 stroke Aero 80 engine and front end! Might get Met wheels and front end instead, we'll see how all that pans out. For now I've got the Aero stripped and all parts aside and have almost completed the Elite 250 strip. All remaining and unused parts will be sold. I have almost all the materials for the trailer now too. I just need to finish a few customers bikes to make room on the work bench for my own projects! I'm sure a few pictures are in order, I promise as soon as I get things setup.

Still looking for info on dio cranks? ? ? I really want to see what my options are with this Aero 80 motor. I won't say yet, but I've been experimenting with my AF05E engines more and may have found a very good cylinder option. I'll share when it's a done for sure deal. I'd like to retrofit some dio engine parts and run a big port high rpm cylinder. So any cranks dimensions and cylinder stud spacing and cylinder height info would be great!
