Woot scored a Gyro S

Post by Mystic »

Got this puppy on CL and just got home with it plastics faded but only has 690 miles on it. The top of the piston through the spark hole looks brand new. The PO said just needed a battery and the starter didn't engage then his girl said it didn't engage everytime....guess what? The starter is missing Lmao I don't mind a lie cause I got it fir 125 and a 45 minute ride. My first gyro so I may have a few questions along the way. Can't hold a candle to 666 but imma make her shine :D

Greetings:

I guess a missing starter would explain why it doesn't engage every time. Still, Good Score! What, no pics?!

You most likely already thought of this...
but since so many years have gone by with the previous owner, Maybe the starter is still in the garage it was stored?
Why not send them a picture and ask?
Worse case, they say no...

Got off work early yesterday so I worked on the starter miusewheels helped me figure out. Installed and it turns the motor. Sweet. Changed some fuel and oil lines then had to figure out why no electricals. Well I did this before I put the starter on, turns out the rectifier was bad. Luckily I brought all the main electricals from a spree with me :D took the carb off, looks ok. Throttle cable stuck, took that apart and dripped oil and let it hang. Light rust in gas tank. Took that off and got some evaporust at AutoZone. Safe for the environment, works great and water soluable. Today going to drain the oil tank and clean everything up while I swish the gas tank a few times cause it got cold last night and the stuff works best above 65f

Thanks mousewheels, so far I am planning to do a factory reset :D Performance mods in my experience require constant improvement and monitoring as opposed to factory. For now just going to paint and replace decals once I get it running

Cool, I like the look of those 85-86 a bit more than my 84. But 3 wheels is neat either way. I wish they has 2 up front though.. Swapping a AF16 motor in would be a breeze.

For real deuce, the thing about a swap is not an af16 but a gyro x motor or any like the canopy or Up. I think all of them have a variated motor :D With enough golds to ship from Japan I would do it cause they made those up until recently so plenty of aftermarket I'm sure

Got the oil and gas tank done with new hose. Put the backplate on and installed battery. I put some oil in the gas just to help the first run and to make sure it got oil till the pump filled the line. Got all the plastic painted satin black krylon plastic paint just like the motor fairring. Put some gas in the plug hole and after a few unsuccessful cranks I opened up the throttle abd she roared to life!!!!! Let it fill the oil line then shut it off to cool while I worked on freeing the throttle cable. Got it working alright still sticky right off idle may need a new cable. Took it fir a short spin and got her up to 30 so the Speedo and brakes work :D now I gotta put the plastic back on, adjust for idle if I can cause it won't idle very well, and change transmission oil. After that imma go about a quarter of a mile to show it off lol

Looking good. It is smoking like the one I got this month. Nice old fuel and who knows how much crud built up in the exhaust.
