Had some requests for some pics of the DJ1 project.
My brother picked it up in a deal he got for a car. At no extra charge :D free DJ1!
When I got it all the plastics that were on it were broken and held on with hope and zip ties. Motor was a dead in pieces AF18 that has been swapped with a Dio AF18 engine that I picked up in a rolling Dio from a swapmeet for $100
Just picked it up from paulpaulys last night after he sorted a carb problem for me so I just got some new photos for it as it is ATM and il upload some more with new mods plastics on etc

Most of the plastics are broken so I have decided to replace it with standard plastics from a normal DJ1 I wrecked. Plastics that were on it:

And the new plastics to go on

Todays little project for it was to paint the plastics for the feet and around the frame etc

Bike is gonna be black and white- it should nicely contrast and pop a bit better now hopefully than if it had just the grey ughness of these pieces

So after spending the day tinkering with the scooter too see if it could be ready for a big scooter ride next weekend I got 2 things:

1: My answer- NO. it wont be ready by next weekend it still needs a lot of tuning and tinkering to make it reliabe for 200+ kilometers. which is about 125 miles.

But I did take it for a ride today! Found out some things:
The exhaust has some note but is not excessively loud
Motor seems to go pretty well and pulls okay
It actually feels quice nice to ride

So it news things like new grips (they feel horrible and im also sure im not getting full throttle) and tidy up the cosmetics etc

Also took a few more pics while it was out..

I've never seen one of these before, but the body fairings look sweet as does the headset. Nice ride! So is it essentially a spree underneeth?

No not a spree. The DJ1-RR has a Dio motor AF18. The DJ1-R was sold with a variated AF05e. Which would be the same engine code as a spree but the spree motor is unvariated.

As above to what was said, this bike is a factory DJ1-RR so had a early version of the AF18 engine out of dios etc
Plastics arent the originals for it they are off a DJ1-R (the RR plastics have little air scoops- il upload a photo) but they were incomplete and broken when I got this bike (1 side fairing is in no way usable) so I chucked those 1s on and painted the grey plastics black for a nice contrast style theme.
Also has the twin bulb headset and factory RR speedo etc

Have done a few kilometres round the local streets to see what its like and Stil has a few things to tidy up- the exhaust, starter motor etc. Not gonna be a daily run about tho so its not in a huge rush to get running atm.
