The problem is you're reading head temp on a water cooled head. You read the water temp just like a car, not the head temp. You can read the head temp as well as long as you know what the baseline temp is. I should have added this when I read you were using the cht as your temp guide.
Plug chops also do wonders for 2t. Don't trust your gauges until you know for sure your engine is fine. Furthermore, use a water temp send unit next time and ditch the cht. To me a cht on a lc bike is absolutely a waste of time. Too much ambient temp spikes and lulls.

Also sorry to hear! There may be replacement over sized pistons but your piston is pretty much max on size I'd guess.

I just got a trail tech temp sensor in the mail yesterday that goes inline on a hose. I'll put it on the coolant line coming out from the cylinder. I think I need a new batt also, it has power but my battery charger indicates that it's bad.

I use to run one out of the radiator and one from the output of the cylinder. Now I only have one coming out of the cylinder 6 inches before the radiator. If you put it too close to the cylinder you may have ambient heat from the cylinder structure adding to the temp. Use your best judgment.
