Honda Metropolitan (not sure what I will do with it) build

Post by cruzingratiot »

Well, I was made a offer I couldn't refuse on The POP build, so I sold it. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=31026
Always wanted a classic scooter, ( Cushman ),
but found a deal on a 2009 Metropolitan with 525 miles. (Original owner)

Since I got rid of the P.O.P and my Zuma,
they were the go to the store and leave outside mopeds (scooters),
so this one takes their place.

First thought, af16 2 stroke swap, (future plan ?),
but I have fun with the stocker for now.
As found, top pic, all red.
Then I vinyl wrapped flat pearl white and added white walls.
Stock 39mph.
More to come.

I wanna see a vespa motor with 4 gear on a spree... but this would break boundaries.

The metro and minarelli swap is fast and fun. Those metros are light

Not much you can do to a GET 4 stroke engine
most people add a aftermarket ignition (more rpm)
take off the air box and change the variator
than carb intake
cam exhaust
no bolt on bb kit the block is the cylinder

not really much available in gearing
you can put stock metro secondary gears in a ruckus
(Primary: 12x42 secondary 12/47 ruckus) = 13.70 ? ratio 130 -90 10 tire
(Primary: 12x42 secondary13/45 metro) =12.12 ratio 90-90 10 tire
(Primary: 12x42 secondary13/45 af16 elite) =12.12 ratio 3.0 10 tire

kitaco KTC-305-1125210 primary gears ( I think 13-41) final ratio 10.90 ?
Ratio change:12x42= N3.500 (Stock) > 13-41=H3.150 (KITACO)

so the solution for gearing ?
af16 -18 and dio zx pulleys kymco zx50 ?
primary gears input 12t
tooth count same 12t
overall length same
dio undercut at gear end
spline end step different ( where the zx pulley clutch comes in)
Image
primary gears input 42t
tooth count same 42t
thickness different but the secondary gear makes up for it
Image
secondary shaft
Image
clutch pulley assembly I used kymco zx50
Image

so you can fit all the af16 elite gears in a GET metropolitan gearbox
than you can utilize all the gearing available for the elite af16

stock exhaust airbox cdi variator jetting gears
so with that said stock metropolitan 39 mph tucked
added polini variator stock weights 43,5

#72 to #75 jet intake restrictor removed
stock exhaust airbox cdi polini variator stock weights
trans swap 9.1:1 = 16x42 gears 2000 rpm clutch springs zx pulleys
47.5 mph tucked ran out of room
takes off better than stock more pull 30 to 40mph
biggest plus to gear change went 31 miles on a quart of gas that =120 mpg
more to come

intake restrictor on 2009 metropolitan

Holy cow my buddy just told me the block and cylinder is connected, wowza. There are people who bore them and do head work at the same time. Ive heard its expensive tho. In the end the only benefit to any tinkering is a few more mph. Get rid of the GET. Did you know stock compression is over 225. At 190 they are ready for a rebuild.

Hi Cruz. Are you saying the AF 16 aftermarket secondary gears will fit the metro?
If so do we need to do any modifications?
Please let me know Thanks

Let me see if I got it

1. use AF16 or ZX clutch shaft?
2. Use AF16 secondary gear?
3. Use AF 16 final gear?

did I get it right?

if you want to use the zx clutch and pulley and clutch bell assembly you change all 4 of the gears and shafts

if you want to use the stock clutch and pulley you keep the primary shaft for the clutch
((SHAFT, DRIVE (12T) 23411-GEE-710 ))
and replace everything else with the af16 gears
but I don't like the 2 shoe clutch and you need to change the clutch springs
to get the take off back

and than check the clearance on the secondary small gear you may need 2 steel washers
