Maybe the issue of overheating is caused by poor gas? I swear the gas in Washington state has got to be different than the stiff in vegas, it smells different to me at the pump. Maybe more water-displacement additives in colder/wetter climates? I find the differing experiences from known knowledgeable builders interesting. G9s talked about it before, joking about how scooters are faster in Hawaii. Well, I've seen a couple island vids of 300+ lb guys on elites hauling * on the freeway, and a few ride-out vids from down there where pots of guys are just flyin, and everybody seems to use carbs that are too big for guys in the states. Maybe weather and gas has alot to do w it?

gas is different in Hawaii too, When we went its much more stronger smelling and is more clean. Here its kinda almost watery and you can only smell it if you stick it up to your face. maybe it has to do with tempter. I know for a fact runners like lower climates for running because of oxygen levels. High climbing is the same as jets, the more you go up the more air you need.

Greetings:

The open part of the clip should line up with the connecting rod, at the top or bottom probably doesn't matter. If the clip opening is horizontal, the two "legs" of the clip will open/close as the piston decelerates at TDC and BDC, potentially allowing it to disengage from the groove. Maybe it doesn't happen all that often, but better to eliminate that possibility through vertical orientation. Maybe it's photo-illusion, but the clip in the pic above doesn't look like it's in its groove AT ALL. Spin it around a couple of times and see if it falls out. Better now than once underway...

Tap gently on the end of the pin both ways to be sure it is locked in by the circlips.

Ive had clips come out and run up and down the piston walls reeking havoc. Ruined my rings, piston, and bore. So id take the advice. Once was from heat, the other was cuz i squeezed it to much installing it. Those things are so fragile.

Greetings:

Quoth Mr. Jumps:
Just leave them out and honda bond it...
Tha's funny rat thar. Hardly Lordly, but made most of the mistakes a feller can make on my own. Like to have others avoid them. Bones' suggestion to tap the pin is a brilliant one. Wish I'd-a thought of it myself, but will sure do it next time I have a hankerin' tuh hog out my Honda.

Meloshameless is also right; it's really easy to over-squeeze the clips and exceed their "spring" function until they become downright limp. They'll pop in, but they won't SNAP in. I'll even use a lighted magnifier to visually inspect all the way around making When in doubt, replace the darned things. $2, maybe? Make sure the gap is vertical. For sure a lot smarter than splitting the case to sweep out the shrapnel next month.

After mine blew i had no way of splitting the case so i flushed it with gas, but didnt get it all, so eventually it ruined another.. luckily they were cheap stock cylinders. Circlips still haunt my nightmares...

Cir clips can be a pain at first. They can loose there strength if played with to much. Here is how I check to see if cir clips are seated correctly. You take a flat head screw driver and line it up on the pin. The you put your thump over the hole on the opposite side. Then push the pin with the screw driver. If the clip is not seated correctly it will pop into your thumb and not fly into the unknown. Do this on the the top and bottom of the pin.

I would think a 28mm carb would be to big for any 47-51mm set up. A 48 pilot and 145 main is really rich for that set up in my opinion.
I am tuning a RM250 after I did the top end and I am down to a 160main and going to a 142 pilot. With the stock jets it had * top end and low end sponge and now it rips all the way through the power band smooth as silk. Plug chops are perfect. The point is thats a 250. There are other big bikes and atv's that are jetted leaner than than that 28mm you using in the islands.

Overheating can be a combination of things. That is why jetting and plug selection is so important when tuning your bike driving conditions and environment.
