1986 SPREE Bolt ons, pics finally :)

Post by Hellish100 »

Hello All!

I picked up a 1986 in very good mechanical condition and I really enjoy it!
I have installed the MLM pipe and have jets coming for it now.

Goals for this build are make it fast enough to be safe around Austin ( I need 40mph) and keep it stock-ish looking (for now!).

And now for the pics:

Files are too big. I'll get that sorted. :)
Welcome and congrats on the purchase of one of the coolest spree add-ons... the MLM pipe! I did the initial testing on it, I have the very first MLM spree pipe. You won't get any more speed with bigger jets with that pipe. If you have a stock top end, stock carb and air box run with the stock jet. And removing the air box and jetting the carb will only make more noise, no more performance will result. I did extensive testing with the GPS, temp gauge and digital tachometer on board the spree. And there was absolutely no more top end with the air box removed and larger jet in the carb with the pipe. a slightly larger carb with some dressing of the cylinder in the intake and exhaust might get you some higher revs and get you closer to the 40mph goal. The BBK with the pipe, carb, intake and a belt swap did 40 all day long but it would rev more into the 10k - 11k rpm range instead of the stock 8k rpm range with the stock carb. That coupled with the gear ratio change gave a lot of top end extension. Where you have an 86 spree you may get close to 40mph with less tuning than an 84 or 85 because they were a little slower by default. And for pic uploading try photobucket. Upload the photos you want to share on the forum then click the share button then select the img option for links copy the link.and paste it when posting and the picture will appear after you click submit.

Thank you! This gives me a good direction to go in. It's a bummer about the stock carb. The belt you are referring to is the 1/2 x 24?

And I am really impressed with the MLM. It is built very well and sounds awesome.

You need AX23 belt. The 24 is too long. And putting it on takes care and patience as to not strip and damage the end of the crank shaft

I can help walk you through the belt installation. Its worth the small amount of time for the increase on top end for not a lot of money.

Okay Pat! I attempted the Ax23 belt and failed.

If you even remotley think you may go bbk, tazland just brought back his gear kits for the spree. I have no clue how long he will have them for but they wher e gone for a while. This coupled with an intake kit and a 19mm oko or pollini would be killer.

The longer I think about the benefits vs dollars, another minarelli swap might not be a bad way to go. The BBK and gears are 175, the carb kit is another 200 there. I could find another minarelli and swap for less and even bone stock should out perform the Nq50 motor.

Just thinking out loud here...

Yeah! I mean some people only want the spree motor to hype up and some want to go all out.
