My bike coming to fruition part 2 after laying her down...

Post by itsover9000 »

Leave it to a construction zone to destroy the paint job on a beautiful restoration... So, after recovering from a concussion and some road rash, I decided to completely repaint the old girl. I took inspiration from the dj-1rr, and also practiced marbling using seran wrap.

Some background on the bike: After 8000 miles, the old se motor from 1989 was just done, so after some research, I ordered a daelim cordi se50 engine. I also added an aftermarket clutch with 1500k spring, 4 oz dr pulley weights, aftermarket intake, and a 19mm Yamaha Jog carburetor/cables for easier carb cleaning/tuning if necessary.

It'll do 45mph (GPS) on flat, and pull my fat butt up some rather large hills, so I'm pretty happy with it--other than not painting the front wheel black yet.

I like the marbelizing, nice color choices. Good looking bike.

You say you ordered a daelim cordi motor? Is that an afo5, and if so what gearing does it have? And what muffler you got on there?

Thanks for the compliment on the marbling! I wish I could have scored candy orange! The Daelim motor I have on it is the SE50, and I got it on Ebay. From what I've seen, it's basically an af16 clone with a longer throw cylinder which rocks for a big guy like me. I haven't been able to find anything on gear tooth ratio, so I left it stock. From what I read on the cordi, it's fast as is, so I left it, and beefed up the low end so I didn't take off like I was riding a spree. It honestly feels like my old af05 did when I had a BBK on it, but the majority of the engine is stock--aside from the intake. Even the pipe is stock after removing the washer.

Ya I was doing some online research on it and found some parts for it but can't find a bbk, maybe a stroker kit would fit haha. Interesting motor, never heard of it til now.

There were quite a few bbks for it a year ago, but they have disappeared... I really don't need one though :)

You said you used Dr. Pulley weights = 4oz.
That equals 112 grams...I suspect you meant to say "4 gram" weights, yes ?
Looks very cool.

Greetings:

Looks better with the black front wheel. What Kickstart cover and pipe are those, they both look different?

Hey! Thanks for posting back! I like the black best of all the oem elite colors and nice work on the marbling attempt! So it was originally an LX w/af05 motor? Better with the af16 clone power now I bet. I have a few of these se50 Cordi motors and was not going to use them as they are worn out somewhat but I have looked into your claim of the "long-throw" cylinder. What I found was news to me. I knew they were a clone of the af16 but didn't know any differences until today. I found the gears come out to aprox. 10.75 to 1 by counting the rotations of the clutch shaft to the wheel axle. I also installed an oem honda stock cylinder on the cordi block/crank and the honda piston sticks out above the honda deck about 3-4mm's at tdc. But at bdc it's only about half way down the exhaust port. I guess Dealim made the connecting rods a bit longer but didn't increase the stroke, which the cylinder had to have been made to match up to that, i suppose, keeping it 49cc's. So it's not a stroker but a higher geared motor. I don't think the longer rod adds to the torque or power because the stroke on the crankshaft appears to be same as the honda af16. Looking into possible differences, the variator boss was a mm longer than the honda and I could not see a difference in the belt width as it was worn pretty well. I also wanted to see if there was anyone else that had particulars on these motors. I think I have 2 or 3 on hand somewhere. They do seem to be of good quality but I did notice some slight casting differences in the internals of the case. A couple of pics....
