I would love to get this thing back to its original space scooter form and on the road again. I have a new battery coming in the mail for it.

Previous owner welded his own tackle box brackets onto the front fairing bracket (which is thankfully really cheap on ebay). He also told me his goal was to keep this thing running without spending any money on it.

The muffler is missing its mounting bolts
He JB welded the intake boot to fill in the cracks in the rotting rubber
he told me the rear wheel is done and I should buy a new one, I think he bent it trying to get the tire off.

Will be posting images as I work on it. If the engine proves to be in decent shape, I will invest in some new fairings for this project.

Hello joefen... :hi:
I can offer you a good seat if you want to replace yours.
I may also have the rear wheel...I parted out an Elite 80 few years ago.
The box of Elite 80 parts still has some other parts too.
NO body panels, though. :(
Good luck with revival... :urban:

I just snagged a rear wheel on ebay, wish I saw this sooner :( I would be interested in any of the parts you have for this bike. Most of the plastic seems to be in bad shape, it all has cracks in it that were held together with black duct tape and screws.

I started tearing it down yesterday and gave it a rough wipe-down with some simple green:

I am wondering if I will need an exhaust gasket or anything if I take this exhaust off. I want to take it off and try to prevent some of the rotting, maybe get some high heat paint on it.

I pulled a lot of random crap off of it that the prev owner had fashioned on. Some serious Mad Max s*** was going on.

Sofar I am just trying to figure out what he did to it so I can undo it, but I don't know the bike already so I am going through it asking myself "would Honda do this?" to each wire and bolt. It's pretty obvious that this was in a crash, and the owner wanted to get it back on the road without spending any money, so he destroyed more things on the bike to make it hold together.

I hear and see this all too often. These things get hammered on for many years, wrecked, crashed and left for dead. Then a shade-tree "Mr. Fix-It" comes along and tries to get it going with duct tape and band-aids. Usually enough to get it started in a very ill state of barely functioning then ultimately sells it as a bike in "running" condition. Good for you for wanting to do it right and un-doing the many years of abuse and neglect. You'll be happy you went this route in the long run.

I got it started this weekend with a new batt and some starting fluid:

I LOVE that dash, the colors are amazing, going to have to crack that open and clean it all up. It was nice to see it all lit up.

I tried to clean the gunk off of the foam filter for the intake on the belt drive, but it just crumbled to pieces in my hand. I am assuming I can just get any old foam and cut it to fit in there? Doesn't seem super important. Put in a new air filter, and changed the fuel line/ fuel filter.

Also tried twisting out some stripped bolts that held on the old front fairing bracket, no luck on both sides, looks like I will have to drill them out:

New rear wheel and front fairing bracket came in from ebay, looks like the wheel has got some rust on in, I figure I can just paint over it with some Rustoleum:

I stopped at my local hardware store to try to find something to replace these missing muffler mounting bolts:

But they no longer carry metric! Looks like I have to try my luck at lowes or home depot. Judging by the condition of the bolts that I'm pulling out of this thing, it is likely I will be investing in a tap and die kit soon.

Headlight only works on hi, turn signals and horn are not responding, brake lights work fine.

Thanks for the responses! Just want to give a heads up that this is going to be a pretty slow build due to my limited free time. Between a full time job and a 2 year old son, the only time I get out there is late night. Who needs 8 hours anyway?

Compression is reading 120psi when the manual says 199psi. :(

I was going to check the valves anyway but now I def need to. Hopefully they are just loose and I don't need to do a whole top end rebuild.

Managed to put a coat of paint on the new wheel this morning. Second goes on tonight.

Also was able to pop the muffler off and scrub some of the grime and flakes off of it.

I plan to coat this with some heat resistant paint tonight.

Hey! Impressive project.

I have a 1987 Honda Elite 80 that has had a few issues here and there. Most recently I found that the bracket the muffler attaches to is snapped...this leaves the muffler hanging by the bolts attached to the guard above the tire. Did you have this issue on that bike? Couldn't tell from the pic, but it looked like that frame might have still been attached on your bike. Any help/advice you have is appreciated!
