Benji's 87 elite se50

Found another unicorn. This time a one-year-only '87 elite se50[br][br]Image[br][br]Image[br][br]Image[br][br]Low miles, runs but needs carb work (as usual), has all it's body panels, and I got it cheap. I'm really trying to slim down the collection, but I couldn't pass it up. This bike is a one-year-only model, and so is the engine- the se50 af05e motor is a very sought after motor because it has larger ports and slightly taller gearing. I'm gonna clean out the carb, then polish up and refit the panels. Lots of scratches and stickers- maybe a candidate for a repaint, we'll see. I'm not sure if im gonna keep it or flip it.

Ok, got around to playing with this one. Found a carb full of dirt, and a fuel petcock that was plumbed incorrectly, which was weird cuz it was running but overflowing the carb. Also, it would die every now and then and didn't like idling without the choke unplugged (on). The petcock had the vacuum port plumbed to feed the carb, and the fuel outlet blocked off. I sucked on the vacuum port hoping fuel would come out the fuel outlet. I was given a mouth full of gasoline instead. So, swapped out the petcock with one I had sitting around, and now it runs and idles like a champ with no overflow issues.

Now for new wheels and a dj-1 conversion

Benji, I do believe based on this speedo style, you have the somewhat slower final drive gearing. Would recommend verify, reference attached.

The faster geared bikes have this speedo:

Ref:

Final Reduction Ratio: 10.243 (SE50), 11.097:1 (SE50P)

Not trying to burst your bubble or anything, its still a sweet find! I love my '87 SE, but just wana let you know what you got. cheers

if you want to run the dj1 headlight, you need the jdm handle bars. the mounting points are a bit off just like the tail light. you need the rear inner fender plastic for the tail light to mount correctly.
one of these days ill start my 87 elite/dj1 build. I have an 87 se50 frame, dj1 fairings, lights, speedo, glovebox, and a jdm af05e, af35 forks and wheels. some day....

Yes, hence the word "headset" not headlight. IE whole assembly or "set" And correct tail light will need JDM rear trim/panel. You should start getting those parts soon they are getting harder to find even in japan. These bikes are kinda considered trash now days. 4T is the new thing

I already have 90% of parts the parts for my build. I have a 2tone red/white fairing set with a white locking glove box. I actually have 4 JDM tail light/panel sets. I buy them when ever I see one at a good deal. I bought my last tail light assemblies for 100 yen on buyee. = $0.97 usd. no cracks in lens. couldn't pass it up.
I picked up my 87 se50 for $30 on offerup. only plastic panel it had was the speedometer. sellers dog chewed every piece of plastic on the scooter. even part of the rear tire. lol. but motor could be rotated and had compression and everything else was there. I even got the key for its locks.
only thing I really need is an expansion chamber, debating on a jdm pipe, or aftermarket. a belly pan, and a dj1rr head light that has the dual HL bulbs and clear turn signals.
and im not sure where youre located but in SoCal, the old honda and Yamaha 2t scooters are going up in price every day. you cant find a decent condition running spree or express for under 500-600$
gyros are going for $1000+ running. I already have all 3 years of then too. all with jdm lights glove boxes and 2 of mine have 235/30/10 wheel sets. I saved all the stock parts though. boxed them up and stored in the rafters. :2thumbs:

I wish bikes were that cheap here(hawaii). People asking $3k for honda elite S. I would nvr pay that much for a USDM bike :eyeroll: I paid $2.5k for my OG Super Dio with purple inners and orignal panels/decals. They go for $3k. JDM honda tax is heavy here. Cool yup yahoo auctions is good. You should hit up brianbkrr on IG he bring in those kind of body/cowl parts.

Do you still have a set of rear panels available that you’re willing to sell?

Sir sdugasjr:
You will be better served to make a new post in the Wanted/For Sale column.
This thread is pretty old and not going to get any attention.
