I bought one from Taz's ebay store last week. Looks like he might've sold out though. Here's another option, not sure of quality:

Being an OEM, that is worth trying.

Just picked up a 86 Spree and yeah the rear brake cable is completely frozen. Had no idea it would be this hard to find a replacement. Can't believe no one has a new replacement available or does a cable work from another model by any chance?

found this 87 cable, any idea why it wouldn't work on an 86? Found this on this forum "Rear Brake Cable 1984/85 <> 1986/87 (Ferrule size issue) ---> For the 1986 there's conflicting info. Parts fiche says 84-86, but some 1986 owners had fit problems fixed with an '87 cable." Now I am really confused.

http://shop.xtremepowersportstampa.com/ ... JPMQ7136R0

Found this also on this forum....
for the 85
throttle- same as the 84, no slide
17910-GKA-000
rear brake
43450-GK8-406 (replaces -770 and -771)
front brake
45450-GK8-771 (replaces -770)

for the 86
throttle WITH THE SLIDE! Shown as #2 in the diagram AND listed on the parts list, but #1 isnt ?????
17920-GK8-305
rear brake
43450-GK8-405 (replaces -870)
front brake
45450-GK8-771 (replaces -870)

for the 87
throttle same in every way, including comments as the 86
rear brake
43450-GK8-406 (replaces -600)
front brake
45450-GK8-600 (NOT AVAILABLE)

So GK8 406 works on an 85' and an 87'? but not an 86"????
Just found the confirmation on this forum....
The 1984 had it's own rear brake cable, as did the 1986.

The 1985 and 1987 used the same rear brake cable

This is seriously annoying lol.
F it, front brake only it is!

I am having this same issue currently. I was able top source the 86 cable but once I gave it to my shop and they installed it they snapped the cable. Has anyone else found a source for this elusive 86 cable?

Just got myself an 85 Spree without a rear brake cable. Does anybody know of current source for an 85' rear brake cable?

You can check with Taz on Ebay. He's been re-popping these for years. Looks like he's out of stock now, but assume he'll have more in a bit. He's the only reliable source of new cables for these bikes I'm aware of.

I bought one from him for my 87'. Works excellent with the new EBC brakes I installed. I'd maybe message him or ask him when he will get more in stock. When it comes to brake cables, you are way better off buying new over used if you can find it. Had the hassle of trying to re-lube second hand cables, I'd rather deal with brand new, non deteriorated cables. IT'S YOUR BRAKES MAN, THEY STINK ALREADY!!
