Caveat Emptor: Buyer beware!

Post by noiseguy » Sun Jul 13, 2008 11:12 pm

Guys: This should go without saying, but here it is anyway:

This board is not responsible for the buyers and sellers here, so buyer beware. There have been instances in the past of users getting ripped off, either shipping parts without payment, or sending money and getting no parts.

By the way, this has happened both with new users and established users with high post counts; high post count does not always mean the buyer/seller is legit.

Tips:

1st, seeing the stuff in person and paying on the spot is the best policy. I've found that people's descriptions of "great shape" vary wildly.

NEVER ship parts before payment.

For any mailed transaction, you should be using Paypal. If things go wrong on either side, Paypal will send the money back to the payee in many cases. Read the Paypal site for more info on buyer and seller protection. Be sure to follow it to the letter to ensure that you are covered!

Last: Please use these additional guidelines to help other members decide who to deal with on this board. It's written as if the seller was always the problem; but buyers can rip people off as well through fraudulent disputes. Rip-off buyers should be handled the same way.

> If you have a good interaction with a seller, post it as a response under the seller's ad. That way everyone knows.

> If you get ripped off, post it in the General section. If the seller is sensible he'll start working it out. If he doesn't respond or responds like a *, we have record here.

> Before you buy something, do a search for posts with the seller's handle in it. If you don't like what you're reading, don't buy from them.

> Obviously, if the seller is new to the board, we won't have any idea whether it's a scammer or not, but that's a problem no matter how you cut it.
