couldn't get anymore top speed

and hurt takeoff
so in my case the 7.97-1 gears didn't help with this build

been thinking about trying another clutch
Dr Pulley HIT clutch anyone tried one ??

Why do you think acceleration was weaker with the 8.5's?
I switched from 8.5's to 7.5's and gained some top end.
But I always thought the 8.5's had better acceleration.

my friend I ride with
could keep up with me on acceleration
and couldn't before and he didn't change his setup

so the 8.5 worked better than the 8.0 (7.97 18x41)
and it lost top end in my case
I have a set of 7.5 (18x39 ) haven't tried yet

I saw go for that Dr Pully Clutch. It looks pretty awesome. I would *think* that the mechanical engagement would be more reliable, and more constant than just relying on a spring.

Not to correct anyone here about this but the spring is what holds it back from engagement. Centrifugal force applies the engagement on a stock clutch. It appears that those hit clutches add the extra force of incline pressure against the shoe for a better-than-stock (supposedly) clutch engagement. Very interesting concept. I would think it might be a good clutch for drag racing.

1450 miles on odometer is when I originally put the metzeler me1 tires on front & back

than at 4460 miles on odometer Jul 16, 2014 than I put a new front tire on
and put the front on the back so the original front tire had 3010 on it when I made it a rear

today 6785 miles on bike 2325 miles on front tire turned into rear (5335 total miles front and rear time)
decided to change rear tire could have ridden further didn't want to chance it

how far I used the first rear tire link

7415 miles
malossi red contra spring worn out
turning 6,500 - 7,000 rpm at 40 mph
instead of
9,000 - 9,500 rpm at 40 mph
ran ok bit it made it for lazy acceleration from 30-40 mph
( would bog than take off)
going to try other brands of contra springs
in the future

Use koso. It's what we run in drag bikes.

I have koso springs. They seem to be working really well. It feels thicker than the other brands.

They are definite thicker than the malossi red which is suppose to be a 2k spring but it is not by a long shot. I'd give it a 1500 rpm rating if anything. The koso 2k is a true 2k spring.

I have a blue polini spring with ~100 miles on it if you want to try it out.
