I am thinking that my pipe is still holding me back a bunch - so we will see how the super-duper Graphite9 pipe is :)

Testing this weekend...

Got the new Polini pipe in last night and put it on. Just buzzed around the block but it feels good. I made some long runs tomorrow and see how it fares.

Greetings:

Congrats on the Polini Pipe! It's a good idea to pay attention to your RPMs, temperature and plug color right now. The engine's jetting needs have almost certainly changed.

The new pipe picked up but it a bit strange on jetting.

Using the same 98 jets it ran previously 54 (57.9 with fairing), it ran 57.4 so a quick gain already, and it was very responsive. This is with the 21mm OKO. I put in a 102 jet and it acted very rich before hitting the power band, 4 stroking, but when it hit, it picked up and ran 57.9. I put in a 105, the pre-power band got much worse and almost wouldn't get on the pipe, but when it hit, it bumped up and ran 58.4. With the fairing that should be 62-63. So, it acts like it wants more jet, but has trouble getting on the pipe when I give it jet.

As a note, the clutch is engaging about 5200 and then peaking about 9400 before the CVT pulls it down. It runs top speed about 8800.

I tried to part throttle it and see if I could get it on the pipe before going past 3/4 throttle and getting into the main jet, but it didn't have enough power to get up there. What is your best advice? Lower the needle or try a bigger one? Or???

Greetings:

Lower OR thicker needle should achieve similar midrange power improvement.

How exactly do you Tune that Carb with a Turbo ? What is max boost you can Squeeze out of it ?

I set the turbo up as a draw through system. I didn't want to deal with pressurizing the carb and figuring out one more thing. It runs only about 2 psi boost right now getting it figured out.

Hi HP. Is it possible the turbo it sucking the fuel out of the cylinder and pipe?

Mr Wheelman gives great advice. I would lower or raise the needle before I would make any other changes.

I would also compare the RPM's with and without the turbo.

As a note, the numbers I am dealing with right now are without the turbo attached. I want to get this pipe tuning sorted before putting on the turbo with it. I can run it either with or without and it only takes about 15 minutes to swap.

Greetings:

Methinks your jetting will need to be a TON richer once you begin compressing the intake charge air. At the end of the air-cooled era, Kawasaki's 750 Turbo used 4 carburetors. The thing was reportedly a challenge to tune. Imagine that! Yamaha and Suzuki had Turbo bikes too. Turbo Lag was an issue. Honda's idea was to turbocharge the liquid-cooled v-twin from the slow-selling 500, then 650. Again, without computers controlling the mixture, there wasn't much upside in power for all the trouble it took.

Wheel - I believe you are right. I just need to get enough midrange power to get up on the pipe so I can then go full throttle
